Deformation of the rear light white transparent lens

Have any of you encountered a similar problem? What could cause this deformation - heat (internal/external), heat from the bulb?
Not my car but might be of interest as a topic (MOT failure!!)

Regarding this, the rear light protective cover manufacturer (Group Buy section) who I have found can offer all the lenses for the rear lights (red/amber/white) - in fact, are there not 4?? - if you were to encounter the same deformation problem.

I'd like to hear what the possible cause could be.

Heat from the bulb.

Either it has been left in reverse or the light has stayed on for some reason.

Same 20w as the brake and indicator which are all intermittent. The Fog has a metal heatsink.

I have a similar problem on the driver's (UK) side, again with the reversing light. I know that the reverse switch sticks on, so this would seem to confirm Simon's diagnosis.

I disconnected mine except for the MOT! But if a new lens is available, I'd be interested, provided I don't break the undamaged cover trying to get at it.

Could also do with a new reverse switch. Anyone? (Yes I know SJ's and Rockauto have them).

I wonder why that would be an MOT failure. It’s not as if reversing lights are actually any use at illuminating where you’re going on a dark night. They’re really just reversing indicators, so as long as it illuminates a white light when you’re in reverse (and some cars only do have one reversing light) surely that should suffice.

David, Just to check - does this mean we could get some white rear indicator lenses made like Clemo has fitted to his JC Special?

As stated, the "cover" supplier can supply all the lenses of the rear light cluster, irrespective of side.
Fredjohn : (sorry I don't know your name) No problem for supplying the white transparent "reverse light " lens. Just specify what side is required, as they are apparently side-specific. Indeed, you would need to be careful dismantling. I'll actually be receiving a quote tomorrow for a pair if it's of any interest to you. A single side can be purchased.

Ron R : I don't see why not. You do mean the side curved lens (Indicator) which normally is amber coloured. Is that correct? That would suppose the use of an orange bulb instead which isn't a problem.
I can ask if you're interested. That would naturally be both sides.

I have the same clear lenses fitted o my car, and I use Osram chrome bulbs, so the whole thing looks completely clear. It’s only Amber when you turn it on.

Yes, it's the curved normally amber ones, both sides.
If you could get a quote for a pair and possible volume discounts that would be great.

Warped lens is on my S2. It's not had an MOT since I noticed it but I wanted to change the lens because it looks cr@p and just in case it's an issue at MOT time.

David has been fantastic in helping to sort this out for me.
