Lotus water ingress addendum question

Postby david924s » Wed 01.07.2020, 12:40

I have read through the Lotus water ingress addendum in the manuals as I have the usual issue of water running into the doors via window seals and or door seals, flooding the out of the door bottom (as it should) then overflowing the door sill kick plate and into the front and rear foot wells.

I have tried the Heath Robinson method of fixing small bore tubing onto the kick plates in strategic positions and altering the bottom door seal to allow the water to escape outwards and it has improved things but not totally (and this is with a half cover fitted).

I was interested to see how the water ingress instructions from Lotus could help but from what I can see it will only enable water running down the inside of the A/B pillar covers to run out through the holes in the sills with the kick plates draining via the V cuts you are supposed to put into the door seals. I have as I said already modified the door seals and even fitted small feet in the seals to lift them from the kick plates, so I was wondering about following the instructions to seal the kick plates and pillar covers to stop water running inside while underneath then adding drainage holes in the kick plate aligned to those going through the outer sills to allow any water on the kick plates to either exit through the outer sills or via the outside edge of the kick plate.

I know I will then have kick plates with holes in but it has to be better than a car full of water!

Other than trying to stop the water getting into the door all together which would probably mean sealing the window shut any one have a better solution?

Please don't say keep it in a garage, I know that is the best solution but not an option at present and I still need to use it and it does rain sometimes when out even up in the North East.

Is that the problem that Lotus tried to solve on the S2 with a different moulding on the sill under the door? If it is - maybe you could get some S2 finishers from somewhere?

I believe the S2 had a higher lip on the inside of the kick plate, I did think about getting those for mine but not common so hard to come by, I also thought about building up the ones in my car but to be honest I think it would just channel the water to either end and into the car.
