Hood Elastic

Hi All,

I've got some new elastic to put into the hood, but bits of mine are currently missing so I'm not 100% sure where they go!

It looks like there's (on each side):

1. A piece riveted to the header rail to the first bar.

2. A piece riveted to the rear bar which goes to the 2nd bar and then onto the first where it wraps around and then back to the 2nd. All pieces riveted to the bars.

Does that sound correct?

I'm about to replace mine. I'm going in a single piece from the header to the 2 roof support bars, then onto the rear bar.

There are (were?) a couple of threads on replacement of these a long time ago - I did one, and Ray D did his diferently (but he was good, and put pictures up).

The photos on the 2nd link are as per my car (ex RayD over 5 years ago) My elastic webbing is just starting to lose some of its elasticity and I occasionally have to manually move the central metal bracket into position when I put the roof up. Not that its ever up much as its down for 99% of driving time

That's why it's been over 4 years before I've got round to fixing it, I've rarely driven it with the roof up! However last time I did at Motorway speeds the roof ballooned a bit and the bar kept hitting me on the head where it was no longer held in place by the roof. Quite a shock the first time!!

Almost finished with my elastic replacement, it escalated quickly onto fully refurbishing the hoops too as they were grotty.







Just need to suss out how to remove the old elastic the rear frame & attache the new in the same manner (without damaging the hood).

My bars were a bit like yours, not as bad. I'll need to replace the hood at some point, so I didn't bother cleaning and painting them as I'll do it later.

I actually replaced the elastic without removing the hood at all, it's looking quite fragile in places so I didn't want to disturb it too much! I removed the elastic from the rear bar by drilling out the rivets, there was just enough room to do it with the hood in place.
