Is there more than one type of hood?

Back during lockdown I fitted a 2nd hand replacement hood to the Elan. All seems ok with it although I am aware that I have to do some adjustment to it as the back struts going back to the rear deck no longer lock into position and I have to reach in and lock them myself.
Previously to this, I have replaced the B post covers on the car to the newer version because the originals that I had in the Elan were cracked and broken and the caps and the springs to hold them down were long gone. The version I have now is the later one which has the single offset hinge each side and I had to hunt around to get the passenger side hinge. This was basically what I could get hold of and also I thought it was the better design as the ones fitted originally appear to have parted company from the car.
What I have noticed now is that the b post pillar is starting to get split by the hood mechanism coming out of it, pushing against it. Added to which the B-post caps don't really pivot up comfortably either.

So my questions are, firstly is there two types of hood and does the fitment of the different type of B-post cover matter or should they be interchangeable?
Or, is this just a case of adjustment.

There were or are two hood types one originally for the SE and one for the later S2 Elan, not sure what if any frame changes were made but I know some of the seals are specific to one or the other hood type.

I have seen many SEs with the later S2 hood fitted as they are better material and have a wider guttering around the door windows etc. The B Pillar covers are specific to early or later cars.

As you can see, passenger side, the strut is starting to split the B-Post trim.
Is this a case of adjustment somewhere to move it away from the trim? Maybe its even become bent somewhere? I need to find what adjustment does what on the hood - any ideas where?
Or is there some issue with incompatibility where a certain hood has to go with a certain b post cover?
