gear lever tunnel

While installing a short shift kit I decided to have a look along the gear lever tunnel towards the boot, past the strengthening bracket, using a camera. I saw what looks like a mouse nest and some possible rust spots. How can I get into area to remove the nest and check the rust?

Lots of extensions on the shopvac hose and my arm was just slender enough that I could get my elbow past the top opening. If you get the rear end up high enough (or on a lift) you can also access the tunnel from the back too. Yes, there is that part, past the bulkhead that would be hard to get perfect, but attacked from either end you should be able to make good progress. And then there are pencil sized holes along the bottom for spray access too for your rust inhibitor (and wax coat too if you are fancy). Let us know what ends up working for you.

My rodents should be ashamed to think of what I have as home, compared to yours my mice were workshy shirkers.

How high do you need the rear end to access the tunnel?

As to how high, it really just depends on how flexible you are. It's a tight bend in the back, so the more space the better. Good luck.
