headlights pods

Postby stevie-a » Wed 11.06.2025, 18:36

When closed, my headlight pods sit too far forward, creating a gap near the bonnet (hood)
I believe if I slacken the two allan screws I should be able to move the pod back about 4 to 5 mm

Questions:

1. Is it only the two allan key screws or is there more?
2. If I move them back 4 or 5mm will I have to get the lights re aligned?
3. Is there an official gap measurement?

Hi Steve,

Whilst it is "just" the 2 M6 bolts, there is a bit more to it (as always with these cars). You need to slacken, but not remove the 2 bolts, then gently position the lamp so that the gaps look about right to you..... then tighten them a bit to just about hold it in place.

Be aware that there are shims under the bolt heads to allow the height adjustment of the rear of the pod to line up with the bonnet height, when the bonnet is closed (so you may need to add or subtract some washers if it needs it).

At that point, you need to open the bonnet, and wind up the headlamp pod by hand to check that it clears the clamshell during it's movement - doing it by hand prevents the paint from scratching if it catches whilst the motor is running.

If all is good, close the bonnet and operate the pods with the light switch, then let them rest in the down position. Tighten the 2 bolts correctly and all should be right...... except the front of the pods may not line up with the height of the clamshell - in which scae you need to open the pod, locate the threaded rods which connect the pod to the motor, and either lengthen or shorted one to get the front of the pod height correct.

At this point, you will be fed up, and just hoping that the light alignment is okay (it should be!),

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

Thanks for the detailed instructions, Dave

I think I will need to keep a free day for this operation..

only glanced at daves reply. did he mention that the rods that connet to the motors may need to be readjusted, as moving th pods further up/back will slightly raise them due to the way the mechanism works

I like to put a few bits of masking tape between the pods and the clamshell before I start, I then slice them with a knife - that way you have a datum point to work from.

^^ THIS^^

A top tip which I have never seen mentioned before, and haven't used! Something I've never thought of for the pod positions, but is a simple thing which could save a lot of messing about....

You might find the following Service bulletin helpful the key is the 140mm for the motor link rod and you also need the motor arm to hit the limit stop in both directions
