Interior hood covers / flaps.

Postby scubaruss » Fri 15.07.2005, 06:11

Hi all.....well I'm now the proud owner of a 1990 Elan SE however I have a small problem.

There are 2 flaps situated within the cockpit just behind the drivers right ear & the passengers left ear - don't know what they are called but these flaps are spring loaded & basically cover the mechanics of the hood when it is retracted. Anyway I need the left hand side flap & the 2 springs that are attached to it. I understand that Lotus dis-continued this part some time ago.

Can anybody help a newby in need :?:

How about trying SJ Sportscars 01363 777790, they mention on their site about b pillar caps and hinges, this might be the part, worth a phone call anyway.

Hi scubaruss,

Did you have any joy tracking these down? I'm after the drivers side one.

In short no, I'm still looking. It seems that they're in grest demand as every time I find a car breaking these are amongst the first parts to go....how about we swap, you have my drivers side & I'll take your passenger side

I'm sure someone told me at Donington this year that Darren was going to add the post caps to his "carbon fibre" project ? Or did I have one drink too many and imagined this ??

The CNC mould has been made from Brian's CAD drawings, it's undergone 3+ nights of polishing & as of the last conversation with my laminator, a trial set of caps (which I'm yet to see) has been fabricated.

The only thing left to do is to sort out the actual fitting of these items, especially given that the sprung hinge from Lotus retails at £20 for each side.

Now if anyone knows about sprung hinges then please feel free to contact me.

I'm not sure about timescales, as lifes a little hectic at the moment but rest assured, I'll have an on offering very soon. If nothing else, I could really do with getting some of my current developement costs (around £250) back, sooner, than later.

Darren.
