My boots a bathtub

Lots of rain here today and lots of water inside my Elan.

The water in the boot has me tricked. Everything looks dry until you lift the carpet and there is water 2 inches deep under the spare and around the tool box. Any suggestion where to start looking?

Check the drainholes in the depression under the toolbox, if they've got blocked you'll accumulate some water... also check the rubber seals around the boot lid. If they are worn or missing you'll get more ingress than expected.
I normally end up a little damp around the bottom after heavy rain, but it drains out and dries through. Recently I used some of the 5mm automotive and door insulation foam tape to just bolster the seals, and I suffer less leakage now
So drain holes and insulation methinks...

I would guess the water is leaking in other than the seal around the trunk (boot for those across the pond). I find it hard to imagine that the water would pool itself over the lip of the seal around the trunk but I could be wrong.

I wonder if the water is leaking in from the storage lid? Maybe the drain hols for the storage lid are plugged and the water is then seeping into the trunk?

I think TheBard is also correct, check the drain holes in the trunk in order to make sure water can not pool in there

As for drain holes... I don't have any. Is this an S2 thing or was the hole maker having the day off when they built mine I think the seal at the rear is the problem. I'll have to have a fiddle.

My S2 didn't have drain holes in the boot, but it does now. Same technique will also be applied to Norma.

When I got my Federal Elan home the trunk had plenty of water sloshing around. Take a lesson from the cowboy jingle singing the phrases of condensed milk.
