Hi
After January 2007 it will illegal to purchase non complaint paint and all
paint makers can sell existing STOCK but will HAVE TO SUPPLY WATER BORNE PAINT. Using NON Compaint Paint will cost you a £5,000 fine and a conviction.
All body shops should "switch over" to WATER BORNE paints and would need a £50,000 Stainless Steel Spray Booth together with stainless steel
needles and accesories for the HVLP GUNS,
The "disadvantages" are durabiity of the WATER BORNE paints which still have to be coated with "clear lacquar.
Mazda are using Fluorine with the addition of a urethane clear coat.
You will be able to "Buy" from paint makers a "NEW SYSTEM" for the complaint paint (see attached) which will be WATERBORNE.
It will be "colour matched" for you but after spraying for "touch up" purposes you will need a hairdryer. It will dry dull so you still need to coat with a clear coat.
I would advise anyone thinking about a "respray" to have it done NOW
in 2 pack paint (if you have a red car) which can be buffed to a high gloss.
Anyone wanting further information regarding the above can obtain a fact sheet from paint suppliers or e-mail me.
