Double Sided Tape Trim Technology

Hi

Just been on the phone to Peter at TRIM TECH,

He has informed that they now fit the header rail seal with"double Sided"
tape instead of the Betterseal Black Gunge used by Lotus which you have to leave for 2 days to cure.

He also does the other seals as well with the same tape.

So if you want to have a go your self you could
give it a try. Dont fancy it my self though, but if you wanted to replace the header rail seal and other seals after cleaning out the "Black Gunge" it should be a lot easier. This seems a good tip from Peter as they
are not fitting hoods after he retires in July.

Had mine done about a month ago with Trim Tech and they definately used copious amouns of black gunge still at that time.

Only complaint I would have about the fitting was that some of the black gunge had now cured and had coverage where it is not desirable... meaning that certain parts of the hood stuck to the seals.

High adhesive double-sided tape would have been much neater and preferable.

It will be a lot easier as a DIY job doing these seals if you can clean out the black gunge and use double sided tape in the grove rather than trying to "GLUE THEM IN".

There is a product to remove the black gunge (will try and get the trade name) which does not damage the hood material if the gunge has dried
and is showing on parts that are visable.

I would be interested if you could find the name of the product for removing the 'gunge'. Some of it has spread onto areas of the seal that are not required for gluing it to the frame and caused it to stick to the fabric of the hood in a small area. Therefore whatever product it was would have to be perfectly safe to use with coming into contact with the rubber seals and hood without damaging them.
