Trim Technology - Hood Sell Off

I have just returned from a visit to Coventry where I spent an hour or two with some of the guys from Trim Technology.

Firstly let me say a huge 'Thank You' to them for the hospitality I received and for the information exchange which I had with them.

Primarily I went to find out about their hood refurbishment now that Peter had retired (he was the Lotus expert there) and to see what the future was and what service they could provide.

In short they told me the Koreans had placed an order for approximately 250 hood pre-assembled on their frame. What Trim Technology did was to make a few extra in case there was a UK need for any, and they currently have 14 on the shelves in storage.

However, where they are stored is being re-developed for other uses and they want to move them on for the space.

Sy V posted a comment here http://www.lotuselancentral.com/forum/v ... c&start=20 regarding a price but I was informed that TT will take GBP1000.00 (total price which includes VAT) for a brand new hood, which includes frame and seals.

I was also informed that even though Peter has retired, he will fit the new hoods at his convenience, so it's best to pre-arrange with them if you want it fitted.

What was not clarified was whether or not the price quoted includes the fitting. I have sent an e-mail to TT to confirm this and will post their reply when I get it.

Also, they have 150 of the seal kits, and once these are gone there will be no more available from TT. As these were taking up needed space, they are willing to take GBP250.00 for the seal kits....so get one if you need it while you can.

Finally, to my surprise, the Koreans are forwarding the Elan to be built in China!

Give me a couple of days and I will confirm these prices once I've had a reply from TT.

Well lets hope the chinese manufacturer produce hoods for the Kia elan (assuming they fit?) for our future needs

Here is a copy of the reply I had from Dean Holt (Sales Manager) at Trim Technology:

I can confirm that at present we are not promoting the re-trimming option as since Peter’s retirement we do not have on tap the resources and knowledge to carry out this, but we can still offer the sales of the hoods and seals and indeed the new hoods while we have them.



Peter would be able to fit this hood for you at an additional cost of £200.00, this would be plus the £1000.00 we quoted for the hoods and seals complete.



The price for the canopy kit including seals is £499.00 this is on the web site.



We are selling the seals on e-bay at £250.00 under a special promotion.

Holly $*%£, I'm glad I got my hood replaced when I did. Those babies have rocketed in price since May.

£1200 (+VAT I'm guessing) is a bit of a leap from £740 all in.

Let's hope that, for the sake of the guys who didn't get in there before Peter left, that the Kia production operation manages to knock them out at an affordable price.

I think nowts changed.....I think the £1000 is for one with a new frame..
in deans post he says that theyre still doing the hood and all the seals as a kit for £499.....and also stated that they can fit it for you for £200....

Just to set things straight, the GBP740.00 was for a refurb frame, new canopy and seals, then fitted on top.

What is being offered is a new frame, new canopy and seals, fitted for GBP1200.00 (all in).

Hope that clears it up.

As clear as a newly fitted hood's rear screen Thanks for that. Still glad I got in there when the refurbed options were available. Don't think I could justify a new hood that cost the same as a complete respray... Well, not to the wife anyway... I can pretty much talk myself into anything

I heard they are ALL black ONLY on the assemblies -- is that true?

I saw a couple of Blue hoods, but didn't ask how many they had, so you can take it from me (they call me 'Honest John' (yeah right)) that black is NOT the only colour.

Are these SE or S2 seals? Or just SE's later version seals -- without the round rubber thingy on the outside window corner where the window meets the door at the rear end.

Can I fit S2 seals on SE? I figure the sticking out seal edge on S2 might work better guarding the rain from getting in.

From what I have seen and remember from my fitting, the are the S2 hood and seals, with the hood material also overlapping the seals to protect them over the door class. Works very well on my SE and I have not had a single drop of water ingressing into the cabin.

Yes Dave, just back for enough time to polish her !. Hope Gerald has her done in a week, don't see why not ?, then it should be on the road, until the next time eh ?, still don't want my old hood mate, before it goes on ebay ?
