Correct it is next door garage door handle in the reflection. Mind you I did worry, just for a second, as you say 'Shock Horror'

Not looking bad though considering I've just taken the cover off and haven't touched it yet this year. Going in for service and MOT
next week. After that I can get to work on it and get it clean

Well I realised mine was slightly wobbly due to the screws not being tight. Unfortunately they don't tighten up and just turn leaving a gap of a millimetre or two so it wobbles.

I took the plate off and cut it down, lost about 2 inches off both ends. I obviously have a couple of holes to fill (actually three as the person drilling the holes made a mistake ) but being black I think it will not be that noticeable when touched in.

I bought some velcro strips which are pretty hard to seperate and they keep the plate very solid in position. I did think of lowering the plate to the position like that Evora but thought it just looked a bit too 'Japanese tuning style' look for some reason. Also to get it mostly out of the way of the air needed you would have to have it as low as the rubber lip and I've caught that a couple of times so that would be the end of the plate !!

I may have saved a couple of grams too.........

This is the plate my car came with and has worn ever since (three years nearly) slightly smaller and probably illegal but no one has had cause to complain thus far. I do carry a full size front plate in case of being stopped and having to replace it (perhaps a show plate excuse comes to mind)

My SE on SORN has an illegal plate because Halfords supplied it without "BSAU145d" shown on it, or "Halfords" as per Page 8 ... but it might have been before Sept 2001.

I've just chopped the ends off my front one as have less characters so I think its legal. Correct spacing around letters, correct size font.

There is no issue with cutting down the length as long as the characters are correctly sized, spaced and fonted (is that a word?). The rules keep changing, and dependent on when the car was registered, and/or the plate was made, it may or may not have/need the BS au 145(a) designation (or need to comply) - likewise the plate makers' address/Postcode. The only allowed accoutriments are a National Identifier, and/or EU 'Star' flag.

So, to make a long story short, mine are all technically illegal - all have something on that they shouldn't (either flags, logos script etc) - but as all also have reduced numbers of digits, I can sucessfully argue that the side bits don't form part of the plate - just happen to be printed on the same bit of plastic trim - and are thus no different than a flag bumper sticker.......

I've seen some outrageous reg plates recently where the characters have been moved all over the place. Most of these plates seem to be on cars owned by people you would see going to church. Not young kinds trying to make stupid words up.

I can only assume ANPR cameras have got a lot better so can read all these plates, so maybe the police don't worry as much ?
