Please add my car to the list. The top is going to need replacing. It seems we can by the top itself, but the seals are the hold up.
One question: How can you do the door seal in one piece? When to top folds, that's why the originals were 2 pieces.

Pete...If you look at the pictures you will see the 'one piece' seal goes along the header beam and down the sides of the A pillars, that's the way more modern convertibles seals sit, look at S2000, Boxster,
MX-5 etc. The thick sponge seal that is stuck on the front of the folding roof is completely removed.

Notice also that the side hood seal is one piece as well, this is a clip on / off seal and was made to do away with the original intermediate seal and the side part of the header seal
rubbing over each other as the roof is opened and closed, it was a poor design from the off, this one of the reasons you see them with chunks of sponge eroded away in that area, it also makes folding the roof a bit easier,
looks neater and doesn't have the join in the middle which can be another point of water ingress on the originals (especially after they have munched chunks off each other ).

Jamie... So in lowering the top/hood You remove the clip on/ off side seals? I'm in! This is always the bain of auto restoration, rubber gaskets!

yes,
you unclip both sides and remove them before folding the hood. this implies that you will need to go around the car to the other side everytime you do it.

a perfectly good compromise if you dont fold the hood often. which is the case for the majority of owners

do you drive it everyday ? including the winter ?

i say this because over the years i found myself only putting the roof down very rarely... after all british weather is least suitable for convertibles... althought convertibles seem to be a lot more common here than anywhere else

I only really drive a convertible with the roof down, and consider the roof an emergency item for when it rains, but then again its not a daily - but with a leak proof roof….

Not everyday ... It is off the road now for winter repairs - but up to a few weeks ago I drove it regularly

last winter I had it shipped to Portugal and drove it everyday - most days with the roof down - the locals thought i was mad

the locals have very little tolerance to the cold weather
10 years ago i went to visit family and was asked to pick up the kids from school..
i was wearing cargoes and a short sleeve shirt thinking to myself "may be about time to put a jumper" i reckon was about 17-18c

then i realised.. everyone else waiting for kids was wearing anoraks worthy of alpine exploration.

yeah I was amused by this too..... I explained that 18 was 30 warmer than at home in Germany

it was -11 here yesterday - off to Portugal tomorrow

How does the side seal work if it's now one piece rather than the original two piece part ? I would have thought that the roof would Ben it at that point when it folds ?

The one piece is removed before you pop the roof, then put back in position after you put the roof up, sounds a faff but really isn't
