Wind Stopper

I have an inkling to make my own wind stopper. Just a small question though to all those wind stopper equipped bods already and one for anyone who is interested. <br><br>Can someone measure up your current wind stopper and drop me a picture of it. I would like to copy the size.<br><br>Second <br>I am thinking of using a perspex sheet attached to the rear bulkhead, i need to fix through the bulkhead and into the roof stowage compartment. has anyone any thoughts on going through this "wall".<br><br>

I'd like to have one which is easy to remove and install at will.<br><br>Preferably something that would be easy to fit in the first place too.<br><br>I'd be interested in this thread developing!

I also don't think it would look that great either (compared to the  'proper' wind stops).<br><br>What I imagined was a set-up similar to the headboard of a bed (bear with me!) where the perspex would be held in place by two 'legs' that could be slid up and down on some fixings. By slackening and tightening a couple of wing nuts you could lower the blocker out of sight when you didn't need it or slide it up into position when you did.<br><br>Alan

Thats pizzactly what I have in mind. I have a perspex sheet which will look good. I have done a few trial cuts with the jigsaw and all is fine there. <br><br>I am thinking of two uprights with a lug on the bottom of each on the cockpit side of the rear wall. Hopefully locating these directly in front of the two vertical brackets for the hood stowage lid locks (I cant be arsed to look the real name up here but I am sure you know the two bits I mean) and then sliding the perspex down the uprights onto two retaining lugs and using some cabinet clips between my uprights and the perspex to hold in place.. <br><br>So anyone with experience in going through this wall or with dims of a wind stop please speak up!!

Okay, just finished the decking for the weekend and found time to upload these pics.<br><br><br><br><br><br><br>The blocker is 390mm from the shelf, 1015 wide at the bottom, 780 wide at the top (to the centre of the corner radius) and 305 high.<br><br>Hope this helps if you require more info just SHOUT.  :D

Rob - Thanks for the info so far, I have one other measurement I need please mate and 2 questions.<br><br>The height from the top of the bulkhead to the top of the blocker. <br><br>Your pix show the fixing on one side only. Is it fixed the same way on the fuel cell side?<br>The picture looks like a bolt either side of the fixing "plate" is that right and last if there are 2 bolts per "plate" do all 4 bolts go right through the bulkhead.<br><br>Your a star!!<br><br>TImmo

Okay, I'm still at work but if this helps.....<br><br>From the shelf behind the drivers seat to the top of the wind breaker is 695mm. So this should be your start point, and how far down you bring the blocker is up to you but I would, as you say, bring it to just above the bulkhead.<br><br>Yep, both sides are exactly the same. I used the supplied large self tappers(one on each side) these screwed straight into the GRP. <br><br>The other screws that you can see are plaster board screws and rawl plugs. The type that you 'screw' a large rawlplug in first and then a smaller self tapper in to that.<br><br><br>These...............<br><br><br>

Club Lotus issued a technical bulletin for making M100 windstoppers.<br><br>Basically a sheet of perspex cut in a T shape with upright of T fitting into rear pocket.  drill some holes and use elastic for additional attachments.<br><br>Very Blue Peter but planning on making one myself come the spring. Last time I looked in b&Q their perspex wasn't thick enough.

Just had to do a google to find out what Lexan was there. I take it it's much stronger (and thicker?) than perspex and I guess a bit dearer as well....
