Rear Spoiler Removal

Hi all,
Had a search through wiki leg and Forum and couldn't find any previous posts on this.
Manual says remove 2 M6 bolts on each side. I have one on each side plus boot lid stopper. Do I have to remove the stopper too?
I want it off to paint in a contained(ish) environment.

There are 2 'normal' bolts (which you have found) and then 2 M6 studs with a big bit of metal screwed onto them, with a rubber 'foot' slipped over the end....

Basically, unscrew the big metal bits and the stud should come with it (there is a plain locking nut above it) - the whole thing works like a bolt but allows adjustment of the boot fitting.

Educational forum this... What Dave said was very familiar to me having owned two '91 SE's.

Thread about 'Locking keys in boot' got me opening the boot to see if I could see a solution and I noticed on my L reg SE the spoiler attachment is different. Bolts hold the spoiler with a separate adjuster with a small rubber foot.
Earlier 'bigfoot' is better as small rubber foot is working a hollow into the body. Wonder what S2 has ...

Confused looking at yours Phil as it has 2 bolts on spoiler and a stopper on each side and it's an SE!?

Yes, SE but it's a bit strange. It's my 3rd SE but surprises me sometimes with small detail changes. That's why I thought a photo might be useful. It had Pre-Delivery Inspection by Lotus Cars Service Dept on 7/12/93 and supplied to Elf Oil Co on 17/12/93 but had been built a few months earlier. (They started work on developing the S2 end of September '93.) It has a turbo and is SE spec but no SE badge on boot and "Elan" is too far to the right for it to have ever been there. Have found some small bits of wiring loom with labels suggesting they came out of the Esprit parts store. There were a couple of owners between ElF and me but doubt they made any significant changes as it only had 42k miles when I bought it 3 years ago and it had detailed service history of just routine servicing, & a few tyres and batteries. So it may be the last SE out of the factory but the archivist can't find a sales record for it... - so perhaps it went out the back door?

I'll be interested to see the next S2 with the boot open to see how the spoiler and boot stoppers are arranged on that.

Thanks for that photo Jonathan. My '93 SE is looking more and more like it was the S2 prototype ... or they'd used up all the SE bits so bodged it ...

IIRC, mine was first registered in late July 1995, so would be about 18 months younger than yours (I'm not in the same location as the provenance certificate at present.
