Sun visor and rear view mirror

Postby stevie-a » Sun 18.05.2025, 19:40

I'm having a problem with Sun visors and rear view mirror
All are slack and keep dropping.

I put them up and they drop down when you start driving, same with the rear view mirror.

Is there a way to tighten these up ?

undo the 2 screws which hold the clamp plate to the bracket on the car, and then the sun visor will drop out (maybe need a bit of a pull, but nowt hard).... then put a length of heat-shrink tubing over the visor arm and heat it to shrink it (obviously) - now the arm is thicker and the clamp will grip it.

Failing that, the same can be achieved by wrapping some gaffer tape or insulating tape round the wire, but heat-shrink is neater.

I am unsure which bit of the mirror is causing the problem - the whole thing is in 2 parts, the 'base' which is bonded tot he glass, and the arm (with the mirror on it) which attaches to the base by means of a grub screw. The mirror/arm interface is a ball joint which may need to be tweaked to get it to grip, but it will be best to remove it from the 'base' before fiddling too much with it/

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?
