Boost guage wiring

Postby Hoppo » Mon 25.03.2019, 19:24

It's never worked since I've had it.

Tried shorting the transducer still nothing. So I've checked and have earth at the transducer.

So I've popped out the gauge. It has 3 connections marked up
T- guess this is transducer?
14.4v- so I guess should be live?
And the other I guess is earth.

Checked and earth works
But when I checked the continuity from the transducer it was connected to the 14.4v terminal.

I've swiped them over and still nothing but if I short it now it jumps to the top of the scale and stays there until I switch the car off?????

Confused now

Off the top of my head, I can’t recall the terminal labelling, and I’m not in front of the car. However. . . The oil and boost gauges have three connections (excluding the instrument lighting circuit); the voltmeter just has two. On the boost gauge, you should have:

    - a green wire, connected to the other two instruments and on to a 12v ignition controlled feed
    - a black wire, again connected to the others and thence to earth
    - a light green/white wire, which goes through two connectors to the transducer (on the RH inner wing under the bonnet)
Both green and black go to the same labelled terminal on all three gauges.

The transducer acts as a variable resistor in the circuit, so if you short it out, you will get a max reading on the gauge.

Sheet 24 of the wiring diagrams may be helpful - you can download it from the link at the end of Brit-Car-Nut’s signature (look in the list of members at the top of the page, or he may be along shortly).

Right as far as I can see the gauge bust be knackered.

With it wired as per the wiki T=ground 14.4= 12v feed and G is gauge sender. I get a reading of full boost all the time. Even with the sender wire unplugged still full boost.

have you checked the vacuum feed pipe to the transducer ?

The gauge reads full boost all the time even with the transducer disconnected

Replaced the gauge with a mechanical one. Not too bad a match might change the others so they match upImage
