I dont think anyone....... I take that back, Houdini did a sort of write up on the install. Ekapol also has some pics on the stripey thread. Cost is really dependent on where you source your parts from. It can get alittle pricey depending on this fact. IMHO though it was well worth the effort in the end. If anyone really, and I do mean REALLY wants to go down this route I can look into making up some downpipes and the coolant and oil feed lines to ease installation. Perhaps even a full install kit with the turbo outlet pipe and the compressor intake and outlets. With these and the turbo + adapter plate its almost a bolt on install.

Where do I send the money?? - Committed enough?

This would be great right now as I currently have my S2 in it's non-native N/A configuration while I strip it from the block to the peco and refurb the lot, if I can upgrade the turbo while I'm at it then :-D

Marie,

Your a Star, i`ve been thinking about the Turbo upgrade for a while and would like the bits so i can do this in the near future.

You can count me in for the part kit
Downpipe (from the back of the Turbo to the flange joint)
Oil & water lines
Adaptor plate (with bolts)

I may even go for the Full kit depending on the price of the Turbo

Just wondering is it easy enough to get the Injectors, 3 bar Map sensor and the Turbo on this side of the Pond :?

id also be very interested, funds dependent. ive been looking into upgrading the turbo for a while but all the companies have stated that it wouldnt be cost effective, so this seens like a way to achieve what id like to without going to that length. my main aim was to aviod having to go down the haltech route, while maximising the performance and improving reliability.

GT2560R...is £490.50 + VAT........

I'll not add my name to the list 'just' yet

As I've already bought an adaptor plate and have been working this one through for some time I've added myself to the list :-D . In fact I PM'd LGM last night, before Matt's post and her response, asking her for some specific details so I could take this planning further.

It was because of Nige that I decided to do this little inquire.

2 kits Im looking at, just for clarification.

#1 downpipe (turbo to exhaust flangepoint)
OIl feed line to turbo ( outlet is modified from stock piece)
2 coolant lines and addapter fittings

#2 all above +
Turbo inlet in either 2.25" or 3" (your choice)
Turbo compressor outlet in 2"
Turbo compressor discharch to intercooler pipe and silicone connectors
Turbo heat sheild

with #2 all you will need to source is the turbo and adapter plate. I leave the intake pipe out as there are many different options as to what you can do such as there are too many options as to finished product.

Marie, you`ll have to bare with me, as i`m not sure which part is which :? (any photo`s to help identify some of the parts)

Turbo inlet in either 2.25" or 3" (your choice)
Is this the pipe from the filter to turbo or some kind of adaptor plate? as i`ve already got the TopEnd pipes.

Turbo compressor outlet in 2"
is this another adaptor to go to the lower pipe to intercooler?

Turbo compressor discharch to intercooler pipe and silicone connectors
will the stock one not fit to the new turbo?

Turbo heat shield
can the stock sheild be bodged to fit?

If you can come up with a rough guide price for each kit that would be great

The Garrett turbo has bolt on fittings to the turbos compressor housing. The Top End pipes are designed for the IHI's 1'3/4" inlet. The new turbo has the option of two inlet sizes which are purchased separately from the actual turbo.

Turbo compressor outlet in 2"
is this another adaptor to go to the lower pipe to intercooler?

Yep, kinda the turbo needs an outlet flange to allow a hose to be attached. the IHI's outlet is also 1 3/4". Garrett doesn't make an outlet this small.

Turbo compressor discharch to intercooler pipe and silicone connectors
will the stock one not fit to the new turbo?

Nope.

Turbo heat shield
can the stock sheild be bodged to fit?

I tried. Its a really tight fit and you have to cut away alot of the stock housing then mounting it becomes an issue.

If you can come up with a rough guide price for each kit that would be great
Working on it.

Thanks Marie

Had a feeling that that the Garrate Turbo needed some type of bolt on adaptor, just wanted to make sure as now i can decide what parts are essential

BTW Marie are you still using an O2 sensor? as i don`t know if to fit one to my SE :?

No worries. Yep on the O2. I have a bung welded in for it as all Fed cars require one.

Pretty much all of the fittings are required for the install. I went the stainless braided route with all of the hoses for that added bit of security.

Hi Marie - bet you're beginning to regret this already?

Just to make sure life won't be to easy for you...I am interested in doing this too except I'd want to use the GT2554 (GT2560's li'l bro') - the turbine is identical but the compressor is different so I'd need to figure out my own air pipes, and possibly the wastegate actuator would need a custom bracket to orient it correctly?

If this proves as popular as I think it will be, we could be in a good position for a group buy on the Turbo's - Houdini might have a lead on a distributor willing to 'deal'? :)

the wasegate is easy enough to orient the right way without an additional brackets. your still going to need the compressor outlet adapter, oil and coolant lines the same outlet to intercooler pipe and downpipe. Its pretty much the same deal just sans the compressor inlet. I was looking at this same turbo for awhile then came to the conclusion that it wouldn't allow me the upgrade ability of the GT2560R Its a good turbo but similar flow to the stock IHI

Oh and to your first question....... its a bit early but...

Wow! This one seems to have taken off. Firstly and above all else a huge thanks to Marie for even considering this. My enquiry was for info so I could see how I might do something similar to Marie's install here in UK but if the possibility of a run of kits exists then I'm in and the option to explore a group buy on the turbos would be the icing on the cake. Personally I'd be in for the most complete set as possible to make this as bolt on as possible. I've already got the exhaust manifold to T25 adaptor plate (well it's on it's way) and also have a custom intercooler with increased capacity and all ally (including end tanks) construction. It will require a bit of modding of the GRP ducting but other than that should be a straight swap.

The aftermarket turbo packages for Mazda MX5s (http://www.flyinmiata.com) say:
The standard turbocharger is the GT2560R. This is our favorite all-around turbo, providing good power potential with good spoolup. A smaller GT2554R is also available for those who make response their highest priority.

If it doesn't exist, create it. (God did)
