The car suddenly started running very roughly and clearly in distress. Looking at the engine I could see a little right-angled white plastic pipe has failed, connected to the inlet manifold:

Thanks to WikiLEC I'm fairly sure this is the pipe that goes to the
MAP sensor.
I have bodged it for now but would like to get a proper replacement. It is only the little white elbow pipe that I need, as everything else seems OK. I found this thread:

I had the same problem as this a few weeks back. The actual fault was only a split vacume hose. Where the hose connects to the plenum chamber there is a small detachable elbow that had perished and split.
It cost me £0.60 at a motor factors to replace it.
That sounds encouraging but I am not sure exactly what to ask for, name, size of part etc. Can anyone help?

That was not the map sensor elbow but the rubber one at the other end of the plenum. I think it connects the vacume take off for the heater control.

Ah well. I see that SJ Sportscars list a 'Vacuum pipe MAP sensor' for £15.20, which presumably includes the elbow joint, though it would be nice if this was a 60p part since there seems to be nothing wrong with the rest of the pipe.

I spoke to SJS and they have the relevant widget, which they call a 'vacuum take-off' for about £10, though I don't know the part number. If anyone else has the same problem I'd say get in touch with them - they have a mysterious Aladdin's cave of semi-mythical Lotus parts.
