!!WARNING!! SAMCO intake hose can kill your turbo!!!

Postby HJ2 » Sun 17.11.2013, 12:01

Dear fellow members,

A BIG warning to all SAMCO users of the new kit, concerning the pipe between filter and turbo !!!!

The pipe is coated with rubber on the inside where the ends of the hose are mounted and the coating can come loose, ruining your compressor-wheel, or entire turbo.

How do i know?

I have a car in that developed a strange sound under boost. Inspection of the turbo learned that several vanes of the compressor where bend but not heavily damaged. A bend vane will not work off course and might even touch the housing which means instant death beyond repair.

The turbo is meanwhile rebuilt.but i did not find a cause until...

Inspection of the intercooler internals showed a lot of rubber, the same color as the coating of the hose! (red)
My advice for now: Get it off as soon as possible and place the old pipe back

If you inspect the hose from the inside: check for rubber bits missing. If something is missing: they can be found in the intercooler. I found parts on both sides of the intercooler... It is highly doubtful if you can clean the intercooler from the bits, so this may be scrapped as well :banghead: I don't even want to know what the parts did in the head

I will contact Samco Monday morning  and keep you posted.
Please inform anybody that you know that owns this hose!

:chair: :poke:

Any reason to believe the rest of the batch (coolant hoses) might have problems?

No. :D

I don't think there is anything wrong with the coolant hoses at all. I would not hesitate to use / buy them any time :D
In fact all pure silicon hoses are OK, as far as i am concerned.

It is the ones that are made from a flexible part, reinforced with a metal spiral, and fused with the silicone fittings that worry me.
I just checked my car as well and found that the first thin rubber parts were coming off already. No damage done to the turbo, just in time! :poke:

I would recommend not to use the pipe between air intake and air filter as well, but use the OEM one.

Gentleman, check your hose!

Combined with the colour issues, this makes these a very expensive mistake. I'll be interested to hear what Samco say. Mine are as yet unfitted.

True, but only for the induction kit 8)

Color can be solved with plastidip btw. but it would be nice if it was the right color to start with

Hi

Thanks for the warning...

BTW the coolant hoses are fine even after a few years use.

Thanks for the reassurance! I've only done a few hundred with mine (weather seems to detect my free days with unerring accuracy)j and this post is making me want to rush home immediately!

Finaly some progress:

Samco sent me a pre-production model of an improved Filter to Turbo (induction) hose.
It looks promising at first glance and I'll keep you all posted!

Good to see that Samco is taking things serious and is truly looking for a solution

Good news, I have still not fitted mine and was actually looking at it the other day and wondering whether to give you a PM and find out if you ever got anywhere, as longtermly I need to confront them about it.
