Slight window gap question

Postby Russc » Fri 26.01.2007, 17:57

Just had my hood fitted by trim tech and have a slight gap on the A post seal. Not massive but can be pretty noisy at high speeds. My window is also a bit wobbly so it wasn`t totally possible to get a tight fit on the A seals

After removing the "inside triangle" at the back of the door mirror i see that the window has a white block. I`ve heard that if i replace this it will help stop the window wobbling and will mean i will have a better fit for the window against the seal.

Hope someone knows what i`m babbling about, it`s been a long day, and will be able to shed some light on what i need?

Can get some piccies if this helps

Thanks

not sure of the white part you mention, BUT I thought that I would throw in that if the window needs adjustment then the way to do it is by removing the inner door card of the door. There are screws the adjust the alignment in and out, and stops for how high the window goes up that can be adjusted. Since the window rides in tracks there is no real front/back adjustment--but this is not something that should be off.

Theres threads and more info on how to remove the door card and adjust the window--have a "search" using the botton above and see if you can figure it out.

otherwise if you put in a pic or more info we can address further questions . . .

Similar Problem Fixed by Fixing Window

Postby DeanG » Sat 27.01.2007, 01:48

I had a similar problem which was fixed by replacing one of the sliders. It firmed up the window and made the fit better. Once the window is correct it is then a matter of adjusting the window glass frame to get the best fit possible. A trick is to play with how the top is lached down. Our car has at least 1/8 inch of side to side play when it is closed prior to locking it in with the latches. Befor the last adjustment to the window frame I had to push the top to the left side of the car to keep the glass from being pushed out at the top on the right side.

Is this what a slider is then? (excuse me being thick) Looking at it i would imagine it`s a sod to replace. What do i need to get??

Thanks

Russ,

don't have the manual and the terminology in front of me, but that is the top of the front slider with the slider block in the slider channel. The slider block attaches to the window with the screw through a hole in the glass--this could be loose perhaps and would require you remove the window to tighten or replace it -- but this is not anything that has to do with replacing a top or the workings of the top so I can't see how that is new and causing a problem??

what exactly is the issue, now that you have the picture there?

Thats one of them

Take a look at the window lift write up. It is a bit of a bugger to get everything out. On the bright side all the parts are faily cheap. I forget if you can see everything once you take the door trim pannel off. Taking off the trimp pannel is easy if you don't mind replacing the infamous orange plastic clip. I worried about the orange clip untill I found out how cheap they were then I bought 10 of them. Of course once I stopped worrying about breaking them they came off just fine.

The passinger side window used to bow out enough at high speed, 90 mph, that when you rasised the window at that speed it wouldn't fit in the upper weatherstripping. Once I replaced the broken and worn bits in the window due to needing to replace the motor mechnism everything worked fine.

Just read this thread, and wondered...
is the gap only there when the hood is up?

if so, is the rear seal (The Hood B-Post seal) set too far out, and pushing the glass out?

Or the same for the top seals? - is the hood itself pushing the top of the glass out, causing the gap?

Thought i`d revisit this and i`ll probably take the door apart and make some of gordons excellent door strips.

The window is wobbly and i think that the screw that goes through the window isn`t properly seated into the slider, therefore creating the top wobble and making sure that the window unseals at speed.

Now i expect that i`ll need to replace the "slider" so i`m going to get one ordered before i take it apart.

Anyone know of what i`m going to be asking for?? or is it a door glass slider kit?

Not sure. But you should probably get in a butterfly clip or two as spares, cos they're dead easy to break during dismantling.

You'll almost certainly need butterfly clips :agree:

You're not really going to know what you need untill the door is in bits...

There's 4 sliders in each door, which could be worn, each one sits on a little plastic spacer, and is secured by a screw - the threads strip in these.

The up-stop cones might be missing altogether, and IMHO they're vital to the stability of the window in the "up" position..

The brush strip is probably tired, and the 4 glass support pads (also with brush strip on them) are porbably worse for wear by now aswell...

Get the door (s) stripped out, and make up a shopping list!

Just an observation from this picture, if this is with the glass in the full "up" position, it looks to me like you need to adjust the up-stop cones. There is a slight gap between the top edge of the glass and the door-mirror rubber seal. When my windows are full up, there is no gap... Maybe compare with the other side?

That extra bit of lift might give you th seal on the A-Post that you're after..

Ever since purchasing Pinky there was a couple of things wrong which i couldn`t be arsed fixing, so thought it`s time to solve them and yesterday started with the shakey light pods when in the up position as i was blinding everyone at night, Now there rock solid.

The 2nd problem which seems i`m in the same boat as u`r self, that passenger side glass has play/wobble and looks like the top front slider (same one in u`r pic) is missing or has fallen further down the channel  Was looking at the manual and it looks like the slider i need has a different size spacing than the other 3 :?
Russ, if u order those bits could u let me know how much these bits cost?

All the things i`ve done to pinky but i`ve never stripped down the doors, so i`m not looking forward to taking the glass out  Mine at least i`ll find out what make the speakers are
