windscreen replacement

How difficult a job is it to replace the windscreen without wreaking the piller seals, i went to donny on sat, coming out of the car park onto the rough road i was behind a elise as soon as we pulled out onto the the main road, the elise gunned it, gravel stuck to his tyres coverd my car, bas---d.......,
end result small stone chip on screen, first pothole i hit the screen cracks top to bottom, drove home with i gob on after a good time at donny
anyone had a replacement that went well ????

Yes the screen can be replaced without disturbing the A post seals...

Tell the glass fitters to be careful...

By the book you're meant to though...

The finishing strips are available in the aftersales list....

If you can't get the side pieces... get a top finisher and cut it down..

Slightly of subject tried to look at the aftersales the other day they;ve changed the web page all i could buy was a bloody base ball cap, is there a new link to the page,
back on subject
i don't trust a windscreen tec to touch the seals is it a hard job to remove them before its fitted, or can you just cut the side trim free of the seals being very carefull as to not touch them,

i rang my insurance , norwich union, and told them my concerns, waste of time, spoke to muppit after muppit, ended up being put through to rac auto windscreens who assured me of a professional job, but could'nt say if they replace the seals, clueless,
i won't have the screen done by someone who knows nothing about the elan, i'd rather pay my self

222 miles!

Whippit, I got a crack in my windscreen last year on the way to the Hethel open day.
I insisted to my insurers that I had the job done at a Lotus main dealer because they were the only ones I could trust NOT to wreck the seals.
They retorted that my windscreen cover only covered me for £500.
Peter Smith's must have heard that one before though, because their price came in at £490!

I also insisted my windscreen was replaced at a main dealers. Footman & James agreed and paid out nearly £1300!!
That was a couple of years ago when A post seals were still available
If your seals are in fairly good nick a reputable company should be able to fit a screen without disturbing them.

iv'e never delt with such a incompetent company in my life, five hours on my mobile to a call centre in india, norwich union direct, pathetic
i was passed from claims dept to claims dept all day, they will ony pay out £125 because i asked for gst performance to do the screen replacement, he was recomended and had knowlege on the elan,
both norwith unoin approved fitting shops, agree they cannot do job without damage to the seals,
norwitch then agreed that if the fitting shop cond'nt do the work without damage to the seals, they would pay gst to do the work, result at last i thought !!!!!!
i had to leave work early so i could take the car to be assesed , the bloke a spoke to agreed with me, desent bloke
then the shop got a call to do the work, they had just agreed they coud'nt do, WTF is going on
it cost me £90 to call india on my mobile, i lost a days wage, im just about ready to explode

depending on what route you go, i have a windscreen still in a car but i have already robbed the a post seals from this, believe all the other bits are there if this is of any help to you. Insurance company should do it though - arseholes!!!!

prob getting my windscreen replaced in a week or two

can someone confirm that i need the following items:

1 x screen (obviously)

either 1x top finisher and 2x side finishers

OR 2 x top finishers

2 x corner bits

AND 2x A post seals !!!!!!!!

i'm asking as i have spoken to the windscreen guy who seems to know what he is on about wrt to the seals etc and the glass types (i'm going for bronze tint) and we will need to get together to see how and where to source all the needed parts from

hope i've been lucid, a bit tired and had my meds (now i know how geoff feels day in day out)

GTS told me the screen finishers are still available from lotus,

all my probs with my screen have been resolved i think
my insurance agreed to pay up, they even agreed to pay to transport
the car there and back,
now i'm worried about whos going to transport it,
i get the car back from a full respray the day befor the RAC pick it up,
nice shinny car, rough arse car transporter, they dont mix

you should be ok as it can be driven.
they or you should drive it on and they lock down the wheels ONLY.
