Adjustment of door/window relative to A pillar seal

The A pillar seals on my car are not in bad condition but I cannot get the window/door mirror to seat against the seal on the driver's side correctly. the seal has what I will call a 'cross-over' 1/4 way up from thetop of the front wing. The triangular mirror carrier should sit in here and has its own rubber seal. Above this is a ridge on the A pillar seal which the glass should push hard up to. I cannot get the glass closer than 4mm away, although the door seems to be hanging correctly (all gaps seem to be right and the same as the other side).

How do I get round this? Can anyone out there help?

So what your basically saying is the windows tight at the bottem, and away from the seal at the top?
This is easier said than done but apart from the window runners there's various pads that can
have an effect on where the window ends up, as it's all adjustable, it's just a question of where to start.
The window runners may have been adjusted in the past,
spacers might have been lost etc, I would go for the runners first,
back off the guides until your happy with the runners,
lots of trail and error, keep a close eye on what your window is doing to the seals, put the roof up as you'll need to see how the window ends up all round.

As referenced above, sounds like you've got some trial and error adjustment ahead of you. I'd suggest the following for starters;

#1. Strip the door trim off, and remove the rear access cover, and the front speaker unit access cover, you'll see the two window runners coming down to bolts at the base of the door through the two holes you've just exposed.

#2. Mark where they are now, that way if it all goes pear-shaped you can put everything back again and be no worse off (digital cameras are my friend for this bit)

#3. If the 4mm gap is at the front of the window (nearest the mirror) try loosening the front bolt, and pushing the rail out (towards the outer door skin) a bit, a couple of mill makes a huge difference here.

#4. Re-tighten the bolt and close the door to test the fit. Close the door carefully because if you went to far with the rail you'll risk breaking the glass.

#5. Repeat until it sits better. You'll find that by tweaking the position of the front and rear rails at the base you should be able to get a good seal fit 90% of the way around.
