Drivers window and fan problem

After the winter there have come the usual problems following being off the road.

The window goes down but under duress and needs me to help it back up when putting it back into place, this is fine but sounds like it is straining the motor. I would like to do it myself but having taken an Elan door to bits once I am flatly refusing to do the fu**er again!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone know someone (Garage) who has had decent experience of sorting this out?

Also, the fans aren't coming on when idling, have cheked fuses and changed thermostat - any clues chaps?
