Top Windscreen Finisher

Having just replaced the top windscreen finisher (part A100B0727F), I thought that I should let anyone else attempting this know that it comes pre-beaded with black mastic, which is not immediately obvious.

If you're not aware of this, you are likely to get it on your fingers and then cover everything you touch (i.e. the interior of your Elan) with sticky black stuff which is difficult to remove without solvent.

The corner bits of plastic trim, which cover the joins between the top finisher and the side finisher, are wafer-thin, very delicate and are bonded on with lots of silicone. If you're lucky, the bond has failed and they will pull off, enabling you to cut away ALL of the old silicone. If not, you are likely to crack them and I am not aware you can get new ones, unless they come with the windscreen bonding kit.

Once you have reapplied the corners with lots of silicone or PU, the best way to hold them in place is to close the hood for 24 hours, making sure you clean away any excess silicone first, for obvious reasons.
