Need help, am i missing something?

Took apart my passenger side window regulator and sliders systems as it was jamming and would not go down. My question is does anyone have a pic of what the sliders (4 per window) should look like and do they all have a nylon sleeve inside one section ? mine came apart with the sliders all looking the same but one on each side had a bushing installed in the upper reccess. Is this normal ? if i order the sliders do i get the bushings ? see pics for what i have when taken apart.

Colin,

There should be a nylon cylinder shape sleeve/bush in all 4 sliders, there should be a diagram in the manual showing the correct fitment and position.

according to the manual they are only in certain of the slots see attached, I do not know why......
One thing that Gerald said was if you are replacing the little bush to fill the little plastic bush with silicone let it cure as it helps stop it going out of shape and then re-fit.

Looking at the diagram bob has posted, mine and Colins plastic siders are slightly different ie the roller is in a vertiacl position so doesn`t roll but acts as a glide and the lower front edge slider is showing 2 rollers iirc mine only has one Am asuming that the diagrame is wrong, but it does make sense to have the rollers rolling LMAO

Are these sliders still available from lotus? be good idea to have spares before there no longer available

One thing that Gerald said was if you are replacing the little bush to fill the little plastic bush with silicone let it cure as it helps stop it going out of shape and then re-fit.

Great diagram Bob! Although it shows typical lotus clarity in its intent From the looks of it i will need 8 sliders (may as well do both doors) but it is still not clear if the rollers/bushings/whatever they are called are included as i cannot see any reference to them in the parts manual. Alos removing the glass was an absolute nightmare as someone had previously broken the butterfly reatiner and used a metal snap ring in its place . As there is precious little room anyway getting this bugger off was an excercise in frustration. So, i am still not 100% on whether i need to order extra rollers or just sliders. Anyone else done this repair ????

Thanks to Bob and Monty i was able to discover that this whole window slider thing was a screw up (no surprise there if youv'e ever taken it apart!) Early cars actually had only three sliders per door (two on the front one on the rear) and this caused numerous binding issues so a retrofit kit was introduced. Not only should there be five rollers per door but the sliders are NOT identical and have different orientation! I will be ordering six of one slider, two of another and ten rollers, along with the butterly clip and a bag of orange retainers which i may or may not need. I was able to find a way to remove the orange door lock clip without jewelers tools and without breaking it, but before i post how smart i am i would like to test it a few more time The details of this repair can be found in the M100 service bulletins V6.

The parts manual only lists A100B1097K (Slider block, door drop glass guide) and the diagram/parts list doesn't show any extras but Pinky's LHD manual lists A100B1089K (Roller, glass guide 10 off).

Colin, mine looked like yours when I took them out. The replacements had sort of a flexible, smooth bowed out insert in one end...no rollers at all. Strangely, they wouldn't move up and down in the channels worth shite. To make them actually work, I removed the little flexible things. Probably not ideal, but the window go up and down smoothly, which was my goal to begin with.

Strangely, they wouldn't move up and down in the channels worth shite. To make them actually work, I removed the little flexible things. Probably not ideal, but the window go up and down smoothly, which was my goal to begin with.

Thanks Chris, I had thought of pulling them out as they way mine are mounted (vertically) they appear to create binding. I can only guess that the intent was to reduce the rattling of the slider & glass??

Thanks Geoff, Hotmail has a limit of 10MB for attachments, pretty much a standard over here. I am going to get my parents to order the sliders & rollers from Williams Monday but will put it back together for now (minus the interior door panel) so i can enjoy the great weather

I'm involved with my window sliders on an early Elan so have been looking at my manual .. main pages are OCT 1990 and some inserts 1992/01 - which I presume is January 1992!.

Early cars started out with a vertical nylon tube in all slots. The tube they called a 'Spacer Tube' and being vertical it slid and didn't roll. The sheet dated 1992/01 tells me they started leaving out the spacer tubes in the uppermost and lowermost positions of each slider boss. Bit strange as it puts them as close together as they can be and allows the most 'wobble' of the glass... but that's what it says and how it shows on the diagram. I'd say your car is that arrangement, as is mine.

By the way... Orange door lock clips - somebody on this site suggested drill 1/16 hole in it and screw in tiny self tapping screw and pull off. Great idea. I owe that man a beer! They come off intact and can be reused and I can certainly live with a tiny hole in them. I've got spares but can never find them when I need them!

Forget to mention something but this post reminded me... I found that 20 year old grease in the runners does nothing to assist smooth running. It was as thick as candle wax so cleaned it out and put fresh stuff in and it worked a treat.

Just to note, I cleaned mine out, too. Seems I recall the manual saying to use vaseline. I tried the dry lubricant suggested by LECers, but that didn't work at all. Vaseline works great.
