Central locking or alarm issue?

Postby HUEANDCRY71 » Sun 28.03.2010, 18:22

Recently recharged the battery on my car after a month sitting in the garage and now the key fob will not activate the central locking.

I have tried both key fobs but still no joy, the lights on the key fobs work fine.

The central locking will work if i put the key in the door and close them manually.

The red LED in my centre console is flashing continuously when i am driving the car, not noticed it doing ths previously.

Any ideas what is wrong and what i need to do to fix please?

As a guess, I'd say that the alarm has lost its settings due to flat batteriy???????

Depending on make/model of alarm, it can happen if the fob battery loses power, or the car battery is flat for an excessive period of time,

With my Vectra, it's just a case of putting the key in the ignition, switching it so the dash lights are on, then pushing alarm button to re-sync them.

On the Laserline on the red elan it is a little more complex, but doable.
On the Clifford on the blue car - havent a clue - it's never happened. :smt102

Try looking in alarm handbook, or on the website.......

....whatever the result, please bear in mind that this is a publically viewable forum, and anything specific to your car, or elans in particular is possibly not best put into general view

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

As Dave says … and … the red light shouldn’t be flashing - it’s telling you the alarm has been activated – as it always does when you reconnect the battery - under normal circumstances it would be a simple matter of pressing the unlock button on the key fob to reset it but you need to re-program yours first.

im not sure what the make and model of the alarm is to be honest, i do know that my car is a 91 SE Turbo and the alarm appears to be afactory fitted one. The alarm handbook doesnt describe resetting and isnt much help,i cant find anything elsewhere either.

Thanks for your response.
