Locking mechanism

My driver's side door lock was not working and so I have stripped the door and discovered that the "J" shaped rod that connects the key lock to the locking mechanism has become disconnected where it connects to the lock. Despite numerous attempts to get things back together I have had no success. The disconnected end has a black rubber bushing at the point where it connects (see pic) and a groove that I presume takes a clip of some kind. But try as I might I cannot get it to articulate properly - despite assuming positions more convoluted than the lotus position.

Any advice.

I'm not 100% which part you're on about, are you talking the point where it plugs in to the socket on the arm or the retaining clip on the back of the lock?

Nearly all the control rods are plug and play, you may have a worn or broken socket. (Tiny little fragile feckers after 20 years)

I have played with one for a while, but I have something in my mind that says routing is paramount to gain correct operation. (or I may be having a brain fart)

Thanks for the photos. They convinced me that part of the problem was that the rubber bushing was in fact part of the problem. Looking at your photos it is clear that there should be a plastic clip - that articulates with the groove in the connecting rod. Ordered missing clips from supplier. Thanks again
