Door window brush seal

A bit of back story, the window regulator broke on the drivers side door of my Elan and I've finally got around to sorting it.

So the regulator unit has been removed from the door and and new slider block installed and the whole thing cleaned and regreased. Thankfully the cables weren't crossed on the drum so it went togther easily and runs up and down smoothly.

All the brush blocks had fallen off the inside of the door with 2 hiding on the door cross member, 1 at the bottom of the door and one missing. As I have to make a new one up, I intend to replace all the brush seals with new and have found a couple of Aus suppliers, but I need to know the length of the brush to make sure I get the correct stuff. Does anyone know how long the bristles are?

Also, is it possible to remove the front window rail? I have removed the rear for cleaning and tried to remove the front one but I can't see how to remove it with the door skin in place (I'm not going to split the door!

It's clear that someone had been buggering around in the door in the past as the bottom of both the front and rear rail were spaced out by having large nuts installed between the inner door skin and the rails witht eh fixing bolt running through. There is also a scrape mark on the cross member from where the regulator block has been rubbing on the member. I know it's supposed to run close but that doesn't seem right.

It's not often the great and knowlegable gestalt entity that is LEC is silent! But that's fine.

The main reason I was asking about these items was due to the car being stored at my parents home and I don't get down there often enough to check the specs of the brush seals. When I'm next down there I'll measure the seals and post the results here for anyone else that might need this information.

Looks like I'll be cleaning and re greasing the the front rail in situ.

Got to love project creep, the regulator block replacement has turned into a full door rebuild. Then I'll have to do the passenger door! Glutton for punishment

I found this poor little fella squashed at the bottom of a bag of bits I recieved when I bought the car.

I do not know if it's an origional part but his bristles appear to be about 10mm long. Tape on the back is 13 mm wide and
when he's stretched out he's 94cm long.

Hi Wayne, that's just the ticket, thanks for digging through your bag of bits. I hope that doesn't mean that you car is missing a seal!

Hi Epipete, I realise SJ have these, but being in the land down under, I prefer to track down parts locally if I can to cut down on shipping cost and time. It's not a part specific to the car and I've found a could of suppliers just needed to know what to order.
