door locking problem

Postby cjdcjdcjd » Sun 30.09.2012, 18:04

I ve looked through the forum(s) and seen lots of entries regarding problematic door locks but not the specific issue I have, so here goes

Its a '91 SE that has at some time been fitted with a Laserline alarm (not used) and Laserline immobilser (in use)

The problem is the door locks although both operating will not stay locked unless either locking tab or the key in the door (either door in both cases)is held down for some time whilst the locks keep trying to unlock. Eventually they will stay locked. If you lock using the door tab or key the release is instantaneous, so i dont think its the two second delay thing if a door isn't properly closed etc.
I have tested the two microswitches that tell the system that the door is closed and both seem to be working and adjusted correctly.
Before I go any further with this does anyone have experience or a good systematic check list I can go through.

thanks in eager anticipation

Chris,

I don't know that it's cropped up before so there won't be a lot of experience in solving it.

Looking at the wiring diagram I imagine you could cause it to happen on an otherwise healthy system by disconnecting any one of the wires on either of the ajar switch lines between the final earth and the CDL module.

In the absence of anything better to do I'd check the continuity on each of the lines, hoping for a loose or detached connection.

My1993 model passenger door lock solenoid appears to have failed. when the key fob was used the locks opened & closed as a result of the button on the passenger side not lifting up fully. it appears to have become detached from the rod or solenoid connection. We can lock & unlock the doors using the key but have disconnected the key fob link for the time being. Does this require a replacement door solenoid & if so where can I obtain one?

Chris,

Before doing anything drastic, fix the button back onto the rod ... take the door card off and check to observe the action and have a feel round for loose connections.

Thanks Ray, but I may not have explained clearly that the button on the passenger side still opens the lock when pulled up from inside, but falls back under its own weight locking the door again. It just feels very loose unlike the drivers side button. :(
