Passenger Central Locking

Hope someone can give me a few ideas.

Basically passenger door locks on the alarm but doesn't open. Door opens ok from inside if I lift the lock. Using the key in the lock it doesn't unlock but if I lift the button up then the key will lock & unlock it all day long.

Stripped door down but can't see anything detached

Any thoughts?

My money is on the door solenoid, I've had a very similar fault on another car
It sounds like the mechanical part works but the electrical bit doesn't

Sounds like the solenoid - try hotwiring to check it works.

I may well have a spare if you need one..

Car is going in for a service very soon, so I'm going to get them to take a look.
What does it look like and where exactly is it. Easy to replace?
Can you still buy them new. If not could I take you up on your offer, maybe just as a loan if it doesn't turn out to be the solenoid?

1. There's a good pic on page 5 in section BK of the manual. Its screwed to the door - part of the lock mechanism.
2. Easy? - depends on your point of view. According to the manual the door glass has to come out, so that's the way I did it - although another LECer managed it without doing that.
3. Don't know - highly doubtful.
4. Of course.. ..Let us know how you got on. As I said before you can prove its an issue by hotwiring it to see if it works.

Do some searching. I remember a post by LGM where she figured out the GM or Vauxhall part numbers for the parts in question.
