Warped triangular plastic the mirror sits on

Something that's always bugged me on my Elan, I wonder if anyone else has given it any thought.
It would appear to be a design issue, i.e plastic gets old sits in the sun and the top point above the mirror that is thinner just warps outwards.
There is room to bond a shallow headed screw on the inside to hold it in place, or maybe a well place screw if done neatly.
But the plastic would need realigning maybe with the use of a heat gun?

Just been out to look at mine and It's only slightly warped. Seems to be more to do with the whole thing pressing hard against the A pillar seal and where it gets thinner at the top the seal starts to win. If I open the door it seems to be straight.
I've got a spare pair of Callopso mirrors complete with the plastic triangles and I need to find them and check if they are straight. If they are I'm quite happy to swap with yours to save you being buggered ... err ... bugged. , or messing around with a heat-gun..
I'm only keeping them for spares... Suffolk country lanes are notorious for clashing O/S mirrors. My son arrived home tonight with his ST220 mirror folded back by an Impreza who wanted more than his share of the road. His car has the "foldback when parked" mirrors so I suspect a shaft to the motor will need looking at. My job for tomorrow in daylight ...

I remember noticing the warping when I bought the car 10 years ago, and today as I was tightening up my mirror it go me thinking

I've just had a look on the SJ web site, and every photo apart from one is showing a mirror with an extra supporting screw position which would prevent the warping.
This is what I was hoping to see on mine but there isn't a corresponding hole in the door to match it
More investigation required tomorrow.

If I remember correctly, yours is an early one with 'opera glass' headlights so maybe that screw was added on later models..

The parts book says it is a snap pin (plastic rivet), not a screw. A100W6498F SJs has them available £0.57 each

I can take a picture of a new base so you can see where the socket is and you could epoxy something similar to your mirrors and make them more modern...

There are 6 screws and washers and two snap pins per car.

I had another look today and one mirror looks like it had something that you could use as a retainer, but it was broken the other mirror was just blank.
Neither of the doors had holes in them to match the retainer even if it was there.
Maybe a future project..............

I noticed this too Steve and bent the top of the triangle back towards the car with a hot air gun - very carefully. I have been looking at substituting the mirrors with folding ones - but that is a different project that may or may not see the light of day.
