Window regulator problem

Does anyone have experience of fiddling with the cable on the window regulator? (silly question I guess)
I have sourced a second hand motor from a peugeot 405 (rear door as I assumed less use). The cable needs shortening and the crimped end reattached.
The old motor had eaten itself internally (rubber bushes disintegrated) and on disassembly to investigate, the wire lost tension. I am trying to avoid that happening on the 'new' motor while disconnecting from the 405 regulator channel and shortening the cable. I would also appreciate advice on attachment of the crimped end.

I bought these from Aliexpress but probably available locally. wrap electrical tape around the cable before you cut it to stop the ends from fraying.

Thanks for that. Pretty heavy duty crimpers but nightmare if it comes off!
