Whats normally the cause of the rear part of the window not

Postby simonbuk » Mon 13.05.2024, 21:05

If the rear of the window is not being raised when the front is - whats the normal cause ? Has a bobbin broke loose ?

Motor is working fine and if you assist the window by hand it raises and lowers correctly.

That sounds like one of the sliders is binding, or has broken. The bobbins come into play when the window is up (they are "up-stop" bobbins).
If its the same door as the one with the speaker grille you want to paint, then maybe you can get a twofer on the job.
My sliders were stuck solid, but it was the old grease that had hardened. Once the door card is off you may be able to get a hair dryer on the slider track and that might free up the binding slider. But then you may want to take it out and clean it up and replace the rollers and re-grease if it still isn't smooth once it is free.

i agree, slider binding is the most likely issue.

the easiest thing to start with is some silicone spray lubricant with the long straw. be generous as you cant really aim well.

if it improves, well. you will probably need to top it up before the end of the summer.
putting some white lithiym grease on the runners would be my more permanent solution.

if the sliders are damaged. you can replace them

i have had success with PLA+ 3d printed replacements on my 4runner window mechanism. but nylon really is the best choice, as far as im told nylon is "self lubricating" where other plastics will eventually push the lubricant away and start sliding "dry" if not maintained

Well one of the front sliders is missing at a minimum, didn't go any further as can't take the window out right now.

SJs want 11 quid for ONE slider  and i know that doesn't include VAT or delivery !! Thats nuts for a piece of plastic !!

Wheres the best/cheapest place currently for these bits ? Need a red plastic clip too !

Ah yes, I'd forgotten the chopping board trick......

.... but confirm it works (it was another one of my 'temporary' solutions that I still haven't got round to replacing with the parts I later found - and have since lost again!).
