3 into 2, How to reinstall door window?

How do I get the rear door window sliders back into place?
I know folks say "lot's of lube" and "have the tracks loose" which I tried, but before I even got that far, the entry gap is off by almost a CM and had me stuck. I tried to wedge the gap wider by hand as I was shoving the glass in there, but started to hear cracking.

The window with slider is almost 3.5 including the retaining boss on the other side.


The gap between the two door panels is only 2.5

So, how to fit a 3++ into 2.5?

is your rail completely loose ?

when they are loose they move forwards. and sometimes misslaigns with the hole where the stud postrudes.

just check thats not happening and that stud is going through the hole. you can move the rail a bit but keep it close to the fibreglass, that little distance is enough to make it impossible to install.

I'm having the problem before it even gets to the track/rail. I even tried taking the rail completely off first and I still couldn't get the glass in there...

Are the sliders on correctly? I think it should fit in there...only one way though

I can't remember the details, but I also don't remember any specific difficulty, and certainly not widening the gap?!

Thanks Gini, Matt, et al. for the shared experience of not having to pry the window gap open to make it fit. I went back and looked at it, and the problem was that I had already attached the metal top rail out of order. All my sliders had come off the glass originally, so when I took the glass out, I hadn't needed to take that rail off, and thus didn't know it needed to be off in order to reveal the notch in the fiberglass at the slider channel.
With that off, it was then just the simple matter of lubing the hell out of everything and making sure the little teflon rollers were stuffed in well enough not to catch on the top lips of the sliders.

Oh yes, didn't notice from the picture you still had the metal step in place,
There's a video in my yard drive explaining exactly what you went through. It's been there over a year. but it's been so long that I forgot until I read your reply lol
