Like so many others, I have an Elan that rattles.
One of the main sources of noise is the drivers door, and the history I've got for the car shows it's been dismantled several times to investigate central locking and electric window issues as well as (ironically) to try to work out where the rattles are coming from.
So I thought I'd take the door card off and see what was behind it.
Some of the mechanics who took the door card off before me were clearly butchers. The carpet is pretty shredded after being replaced first with some horrible tar-like substance and later with black silicone, all the rawl nuts have gone and so have the c-clips that take the screws for the speaker cones. Most have been replaced with self-tapping screws straight into the fibreglass of the door which makes me very unhappy.
I CAN work out what I need to put things right by looking inside the passenger door which I know is in much better shape, removing each fixing in turn to work out what it is and then buying replacements for the drivers door but before I do that, does anybody know of a list of fixings I need that somebody (maybe Lotus even) published before?
Many thanks
