Hi,
Although this is a bit later than the last post I do now need a new windscreen, has anyone been through the process before or is it a matter of taking the Lotus Manual to the Insurance company and the glass replacement company and arguing over what parts need to be replaced?

Hoping someone has been there successfully recently!

Hello, had mine replaced over the weekend after a crack appeared following a coming together with several pot-holes in my village
( not as unfortunate as a neighbour whose jaguar hit the same, thought it had been in a crash & deployed the " active bonnet")
footman james put me on to national windscreens in glasgow who offered either the green or bronze tint, had it in stock within 3days & had the car in to fit it on the 4th.
i pointed out trim concerns before they started & they understood completely, they took such care they even removed a very old lotus club sticker from the screen
& placed it on the new one in same place,
i'd had a chip repaired last year ( no relation to complete crack) & dreaded having to have the screen replaced,
very happy chap now.

Thats great, thanks for this, I need to find my insurance now, annoyingly the insurance company dont actually seem to have sent an email copy!

Bit bizarre as the mirror seemed to be well glued on, it took away a bit of glass with it and caused a crack in the window. Have secured the mirror for the moment, but will need to investigate a replacement.

Although the heated screen option sounds great, although I suppose realistically how many times do I use it in the winter!

Ok, an update on my windscreen saga, hopefully it will help anyone else out there;

Autoglass were happy to do my screen and assured me the job would be done correctly and by their 'master fitter'. However on taking the car to the workshop I was told that they do not follow the Lotus manual but have found a quicker way to do the job. From my understanding, this consists of cutting between the screen and the pillar, through the plastic trim, avoiding the need to remove the window rubbers and have these replaced. They then bond the new screen in and trim the new plastic trim so it matches the old plastic trim.

I didn't fancy this option as maybe this is why many of the windscreens leak, instead I called up the company and explained that I didn't fancy having my screen bonded against the manufacturer recommendation and that should I have an accident they may seek to claim it was due to an inadequate replacement.

I went to Lakeside Engineering in Surrey who accepted the job part against insurance and part payout by me, they did the job as per specification, looks great and I am satisfied with the work. They replaced the screen as per Lotus standard as far as I can see. So a recommendation of lakeside Engineering from me.

+1 for Lakeside, they did a really nice job on my windscreen too, last year.
All in all the job was about £1100, but the insurance company picked up the lot so I was very happy. Getting new A-pillar seals was nice too.

Apparently doing it to the proper spec includes a significant curing period for some of the goo, so watch out for anyone claiming to be able to replace the windscreen in less than 24 hours as this would be a bit suspect.

Lucky for you, my insurance picked up £900, but was happy to pay the extra to get the job done properly.
