Bonkers central locking

My central locking has been got at by the gremlins. It is nuts and has a mind of its own. Help!

Alarm (Toad) only operates the drivers door.

Locking/unlocking the passenger door operates the drivers door.

Locking/unlocking the drivers door has no effect on the passenger door.

The only way to lock the passenger door is to lock the passenger door then unlock the drivers door then get out and use the alarm to lock the drivers door!!.

took me a while to work that one out. Any Ideas?

Does the alarm go off when you stick your finger in where the boot lock should be?

The alarm will go off if the boot is opened as there is a micro switch that detects boot opening (trunk for our American friends) but not if a finger is just poked in the hole. The hole will cease to exist soon as a solanoid is going to be fitted then the unsightly key hole lump will be ground away and filled leaving a very smooth boot (trunk) and a very cool lotus badge in its place

You need to get your passenger side doorcard off I think.
Then you need to see if there is power going to the solenoid in that door.
If you're really lucky then the plug may have just dropped out of it.
Otherwise, try locating the solenoid, unplug the wiring from it and then using a bulb with a couple of wires, bridge the contacts.
Operate the driver's door lock and see if the bulb lights.
If it does then the solenoid is at fault.
If it doesn't then power isn't getting to it, and you need to trace it back to the CDL output.
That should be a pretty good start for you.

I'm sure the passenger side is working ok as its the only lock that seems to reactto any form of input I will however pull apart the drivers side and inspect. I can hear it trying to work when I turn the ignition off I assume this is some daft US inspired anti car jacking function

Tim is a fix it all genius. As a matter of pride I try to fix things myself before resorting to the Tim option. I've known him to fix problems that didn't exist until he fixed them....

Now if only I can get him to fix the problem I have of writing (and performing) the best mans speech for his upcoming wedding

Not any help for your posted problem Joe, but thought I would comment on the above statement.

I'd recommend you put in a key operated lock on your boot, aswell as the solenoid device. Because if you go down the road that you suggest, and the solenoid goes tits up, how are you going to get into the boot?

Would the 'secret' breaking-in method still work?
