Door catching on "A" panel outer assembly - mudguard

I have just noticed that when the passenger door of my S2 is opened, the leading edge of the door is catching on the trailing edge of the "A" panel outer assembly as the parts manual refers to it, or front mudguard as we would more likely call it. I can't think of any reason why this should suddenly start. Would the remedy be to move the door rearwards or is there any adjustment in the mudguard. The latter might be simpler. Thank you.

Could well be the door is dropping on it's hinges. Try gently lifting the door when opened at the non hinged end to see what movement is there. Another reason could just be the heat, fibreglass will flex - gently push in and slide side ways the A panel with your fingers.

I get this problem more than once a year!

I had this happen on the red car and I had the body shop adjust the door. It does just start progressively happening.

The front/rear movement of the door is by way of adding/removing shims betweeen the hinge and the mounting - quite fiddly to get them in (I used a magnetic pick-up tool) but not difficult.

The A panel can also be adjusted, but the fittings are awkward to get at and probably rusted solid.

On my red car the problem was caused by a rusted out lower hinge/door beam and it needed a new (second hand) door to repair

You may want to check the lower A panel fixings. This is a cmmon problem reported by many people here where the "well nut" starts to loose it ability to keep the A panel in place no matter how much you tighten it. There's two of them at the bottom of the panel and its usually the first one closest to the door that goes first. What's required is a new nut (these are rubber nuts you drop into the hole), push the A panel back into place and tighten it up. Your damage is ocurring exactly where mine was and this was the problem.

Definitely get it looked at ASAP or you will quickly start chewing up the A panel from opening the door.
