It went Ping....AGAIN!!!

Oops window winder failed whilst partner was raising window. Down it went and in came the rain. A couple of screw drivers wedged in held it closed till we got home.

Stripped it all down today to find the cable had come out of the plastic slider: only breakages were the red/orange tab on the lock and the tab lock retainer for the glass to slider. Replaced the cable into the slider, (no it is NOT too short, just a matter of technique!!) got new bits from Paul Matty and then put it all back together. It all works again, but with a grating noise at certain points while raising or lowering. Seems to be coming from the cable rather than the window, so I may take it all apart again to see what is causing it. Maybe the cable/motor twisted whilst apart and partially opened up the cable inside the sleeve.

LEC once again helped: found excellent instructions from Specky with piccies and a great little video. Please put it on WikiLEC!!! Only difference seemed to be that my door has a metal shield boxing in the motor: no apparent sign of it on the video. Principle of removal/replacement is however no different, just a bit more awkward.

Also took advantage of the door card being off to replace the speakers, with just cause as the passenger speaker cone was completely torn and barely held on. Juice JS43 at £12 a pair from Amazon are now nestled in both doors.

Other good news is that I have a new MOT: just squeezed through, thanks to a little flexibility on how far in the emissions probe is inserted

What a coincidence, I fitted the exact same speakers to my Elan just a few weeks ago! I've found them to be rather good as well, miles better than the Lotus paper rubbish.

Think I got the idea from your previous posting mentioning them, so looked them up on Amazon. Initially c£24 a pair then a week later reduced to £12!!!! No coincidences in this world, just threads!!!

Yep it's gone again

Stripped it all down again and could see the cable was coming out of the slider because of wear in the groove the cable goes into. The cable end stop was being pulled by the motor into the groove, widening it and eventually allowing it to come apart.

Replacement sliders are on the parts list, so have ordered one from Stratstone's of Leicester, all of £1.40 +VAT. Just need to work out how to get it back onto the channel without breaking it.

Do you need to flatten the short end stop and then bend it back to get the slider on? Or can you just ease the slider over the edge? Don't really want to break it.

Any ideas/experience?
