Broken Butterflies...

OK, so I took my door apart to adjust the glass, and assumed that the 'spare' butterfly clip in the bottom was left there from a previous replacement - everything was working just fine.

Got the glass closing to the seals beautifully after lots of upping and downing, and put it all back together.

The first time I tried it after re-assembly, and it wouldn't come up. I could see that the plastic 'peg' had come out of the hole in the glass, leaving it behind.

The 'spare' butterfly clip in the bottom of the door wasn't a spare after all...

After a temporary fix with a chopped up credit card, I've got a new clip.

2 things:

1 - its got an appendage that the original didn't have, a thin 2 1/2 inch strip with a 'C' at one end. Whats this for?

2 - Which way does it clip to the the peg? I would have expected the two 'ears' to press on the glass, but from the way the teeth are arranged it looks like it would clip into place better the other way round.

Hope someone can help.

The butterfly, with its back to the slide, wingtips pointing away from you, goes over the spigot.
The glass then goes over the spigot, so that it is pressing on the butterfly's wingtips.
The C clip on the tag then goes under the bottom edge of the glass and clips into the grove on the spigot.
Press the glass against the butterfly and then slide the C into the groove... easy!

That was totally different to how I expected, good job I asked!

So there is only 1 butterfly, on one side of the glass (slide side), and then just the bendy arm with the 'c' at the end bending round under the glass to clip to the grove?

I suppose I expected a second butterfly to clip to the other side of the glass as well, kind of sandwiching it between them.

I didn't get to take the original one off, so I had no idea...

I ordered some parts for my left side window from SJ Sportscars but the butterfly clip is no longer available. Someone suggested a 'circlip" on the slider holding a flat plastic (such as an old credit card with a hole for the slider) against the glass? Anyone have any other ideas?

I actually used plastic washers with the relevant piece cut out, used the old butterfly clip as a template, has been working well for the last 12 months plus
