Post wiggle overboost...

Hi,

This is the elanscan log related to this problem of overboost even though the wastegate appears to be very easy to move:

I get over boost and what appears like fuel cut off protection (follow be engine check lamp for about 10s) at the following time periods

200-205s
334-338s
520-524s

I also managed to get overboost with the ECL light on (when it reverts back to a lower boost setting) at the follow time periods... this feels different the the harsh fuel cuts off mentioned above, but instead is more like serveral small cuts almost like a rev limiter.

339-344s
526-528s

Any input and a review of the log would be most welcome...

Wastegate sticking isn't the only cause of overboost. Mine turned out to be the result of a bug.gered up CAS.

This is the elanscan log related to this problem of overboost even though the wastegate appears to be very easy to move:

The Elanscan log shows the overboost flag as the only one set. There are 4 instances where the boost has been 1 bar or more.
There are 13 knock events and 3 of them had spark retard applied. the wastegate duty cycle at the 4 main events is 75-81% -- I'd have expected more but not paid attention on other scans.
Is this a 1499 Everest chip in an S2?
I'd recheck the wastegate and also check the pipework going from wastegate actuator to the boost controller (behind the trash can) for leaks.
One thing to remember about the Everests is that unless you really hammer the car the wastegate is generally being used less and seldom 100% open. The S2 gave a check engine, cut to 4k, etc. a couple of weeks ago and the conventional wiggle wouldn't free it.
I removed the 3 small bolts holding the actuator and freed it off that way but really had to work it to get it completely free. The bottom actuator bolt is a bugger but can be got at by looping your right arm around the hoses and back underneath. Get it out first and put it back last otherwise you'll never get the threads to synch. Finding a 10 year old with small hands is the other option.
As an aside; if you sort the boost creep it looks from your scan that it goes like stink.

Thanks for this I will check out the pipework when I get home tonight. Do you mean the pipe that attaches to the actuator, the one where you would install a manual boost controller valve? I did the actuator off wastegate wiggle a couple of times... and yes that bottom bolt is a bugger... but second time round I managed to get the knack of it!
