Android / iPhone ElanScan

Postby ESM » Fri 07.06.2013, 09:06

Is there any 'App'etite for ElanScan on phones? If so then post and say which platform you would favour. Obviously there will be some hardware interface element required as well, Bluetooth might be possible with android but maybe that's a bad choice because it's often in use for hands free etc. In any event I'll proceed if there's interest but be aware it won't be free like the PC version - these days I work for myself and I have to pay the bills :?

whilst I love this idea......and when I saw it thought yeah brilliant......
I kinda have reservations.......only due to the speed at which the operating systems seem to change
Id still say yes tho........

(although again depends on the cost as I have the cables/software for the PC version...so it'd be a duplicate....although a much smaller and neater solution and available at any given moment due to the fact that I (we) am usually in possession of my phone at any given moment)

top idea....

It would all come down to expected costs - as with Gareth, I always have my phone with me, not always my laptop (but quite often!) so it would be more of a back-up if a fault developed during the drive.

That said, if it can connect by Bluetooth (You've now know I'm an Android user!) and therefore be a data-log function, I can see the benefit.

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually.....

Yes please! For iPhone would be ideal.

Bluetooth would be preferred, but a physical adapter to fit the current elanscan cable design would do fine as well.

iPad - sure, if I can code ES without having to buy one... I reckon I'll start with Android, if I have to get an iPhone and an iPad I doubt I'd ever recover my costs :bonk:

Android please! Bluetooth would be great but so would USB as far as that goes, especially if charging would be incorporated in the cable. (Hey, I can wish, can't I?)

android with bluetooth connectivity. I use an app called Torque for the VX - absolutely excellent for the princely sum of a couple of quid. it is free but it's so good i felt guilty using it for nought. eta/ its for use on any car that uses OBD2.
Could the 'Hokey-Cokey' actually be what it's all about?

I'll be up for this on Android too.
I seem to recall Phil mentioning this a while back. I should see him Wednesday so I'll mention it.

I'm in as well. iPhone would be the my flavour. What woud be the price tag?

Maybe the connection can be over wifi? For OBDII there are ELM Wifi connectors. They provide a Wifi network to which the phone can connect. Maybe something like that is feasible for the ALDL interface?

Cheers,
Sarkas

Edit: Some web search resulted in this little RS232/WLAN bridge. Worth exploring?

Alan,

The possibilities are endless and the amount of effort involved is probably quite high - I'm guessing that it might not be economic.

So as a suggestion you might be able to please everyone and pay for some of your time by using the phone, tablet, palm, psion, laptop etc etc as a data logger.

I'm assuming that it would be relatively simple to send the command and record the data dump on most devices ancient or new - Start logging, stop logging and a format?
Then you would just need to write one lot of code to get the log data into the existing ElanScan format, and bob's your uncle.

I think that you should probably also start charging for Elanscan anyway
