Light pod out of sync

Postby JusNoGood » Sat 10.02.2018, 14:38

My right light goes up and down and turns the lights on beautifully but the pod is out of sync. If I switch on the lights the left pod raises and the lights come on. Unfortunately the right pod goes down (but the light do turn on). If I turn off the LHS behaves, the RHS raises.

I've tried...
1. off the lights, winding down the RHS light pod manually.

2. disconnecting the RHS pod. Turning on lights so the LHS is in the same position as the left, then reconnecting the RHS

3. Turning off the lights. Disconnecting the battery and winding the RHS down.

but every time I turn the lights on my RHS pod goes down and every time I turn the light off the RHS Pod raises. :banghead:

I know this must be very simple to fix but I've searched and read the manual and cant for the life of me work out how. Manual mentions this could happen and recommends disconnecting the pods prior to working on the electrics near by but doesn't tell me what to do to fix the situation. Can someone give me a hint please?

Have you tried turning a light down by hand?

Yes, I have tried both ways. So when the lights are on I've wound the RHS up....and when the lights are off I've tried winding the RHS down.

All looks great until I turn the lights off or on and they're back out of sync.

Did it come with that problem or has it just occurred?

I'm thinking if somebody rebuilds the motor and puts the crank arm on 180° out it might go up instead of down & down instead of up so a mechanical problem. Can you remove the nylock nut, reverse the arm (wind motor by hand) and try that?

Connecting the wires to the motor wrong would also cause that problem but the connector usually has a keyway to stop that.

No, worked perfectly fine yesterday. I think during the fiddling around I've done it. The wiring over near the RHS pod had been previously chewed by mice and repaired so it now doesn't have a single connector for both wires. I did connect them but it's green to green and grey to grey so I dont think even I can screw that up  :bonk:

Thanks I'll double check the wires then check the crank arm.

Bingo! Thank you very much.

I think perhaps the crank arm is on wrong....and the person who did it reversed the wires to fix it! I switched the wires so I now got green going to grey and grey going to green and it's working perfectly now :-D

This happened to me when I rebuilt the motors. The module is out of sync now. Turn the lights on. Unplug the motor that has the pod down. Lower the lights and then replug the motor back in. Both lights should stay down and then try to raise them both.

Thanks Chris. I can rest easy now that you have said that. Means I'm not going mad :)

I'll give that a go see what happens.

Yesterday I did the same wire switcharoo. Why the car started to go one up and one down I have no Idea.

It’s just looking for attention. Ignore it and it’ll go away.
