Which radio for a 1995 S2?

Postby Motocompo » Sat 20.06.2020, 14:41

Hello,

can anyone tell me which radio was installed on 1995 S2 when new?

I have a Alpine with USB connection which I don´t think existed back then.

Thanks for your help.

Hi,
Clarion CRX97RM in my 1995 S2.
I think it's the original radio, with a separate 6 CD player.
Cheers,

Clarion radio with the x6 CD autochanger located behind the seat.

Have a look here ..... viewtopic.php?f=35&t=26478

I installed a similar one in my collapso red SE but fitted the x6 CD autochanger in the boot

It is a Pioneer Tuner CD Player DEH-503 in my car.
The multi-stacker CD player behind the seats in my S1 was surprisingly heavy, perhaps that is why they were phased out?

Some prototype USB devices existed in 1995, but nothing widely available to the public. Windows did not support it.
An upgraded version of Windows 95 (known as OSR2) was released in 1997, available only with new PCs. Even this did not support it until slightly updated a few months later.
It was about 2002 when a colleague showed me a cutting edge device; a 32MB USB memory stick. That will hold about 20-25 minutes of MP3s at 192KB/s, so not really useful to store even a single album.
It would have been a few years later that USB drives could store enough to make them useful for audio, so it is unlikely your Alpine is more than 15 years old.

Clarion with 6 cd changer factory fitted in boot in my 1994 s2 that I bought new. It was a £950 extra, I seem to recall maybe there was nothing fitted as standard and there was a cheaper radio perhaps tape cassette option - I'd have to check through old paperwork to be sure. My Clarion stereo sadly died 15-20 years ago. I still have it though does anyone know where I might find someone to attempt a repair on it? The CD changer remains in situ, possibly with some of my old cd's still in it!
