Rear light covers

Postby wayne » Thu 26.07.2012, 17:48

OK due to requests I have just taken the cover off my spare light assembly to have a close look at it.

The cover itself seems to have a kind of pinkish tint to it? Not noticed it before but when removed and viewed against a white surface it is noticable. This may be just down to the heat here?

The red lense is actually fitted in a hole in the clear lense.

Looking at the edges. It will not be possible to vac form this part. I believe it would have to be injection moulded. Any thoughts?

Obviously, if they were made once then someone can remake them. At this point I do not know if they could be made at an affordable cost for a low volume part.
I will try to check into this over the next few weeks to see if we can come up with someone who can supply them at an affordable cost.

I do not at this point feel confident that this can be done. But it's worth a try!

Has anyone else noticed a tinted colour on the lense? Would I be better off asking for clear covers? Any thoughts of how to get these parts made?

Just thought I'd float the idea and ask for advice and oppinions....

many thanks

There are several versions of the lights and each one has a different "tint" to the cover. The odd inward angle of the sides makes them very difficult to remake.

Just a quickie off the top of my head...

Procast... The fellas who made the clear side lights etc.... believe they could now make the rear covers as the task was a complex one several years ago.

I don't recall who looked into this, but there was a thread on it somewhere.

Not much help, but it may give you something to go on...

Re: B post caps

Postby WienLot » Fri 27.07.2012, 13:02

John, Wayne,
I would be interested in one or two sets of B post caps should you make it fly guys.

Regarding the wish to have sets of rear lights cover remade, may I suggest to liaise with some Alpine clubs in France (or directly with Renault Dieppe) as they obviously are desperately looking for such parts too for their GTA and A610.
I would be pleased ensuring such co-ordination if that can help.

There is a large expanse of shiny flat plastic which may show up any imperfections. What about the groovy ones which might be more forgiving (and look better IMHO)?

Re: B post caps

Postby wayne » Fri 27.07.2012, 17:53

I know that the company that made the escutcheons can make the caps. They have had pictures of them for a few months now and have given a price similar to the escutcheons. Untill I saw DVB's price I really didn't have the enthusiasm, good parts to have scanned for the mould (or spare cash) to go ahead with them.

Interesting thought about the rear lights Franck. Unfortunatly that would mean getting hold of a pair of them or at least a 3D scan. I do have a pair of Lotus light lenses but not renault ones.

Personally I would rather have the lotus ones made. But at the end of the day if we can find someone that can actually make them it would come down to what people want. (at this point I don't actually need any) Other than getting a few ideas on people that I think can make these at an affordable cost. I have done no other research into this.

I did start a seperate thread to cover these. Hopefully someone will look into it before me and come up with a supplier.

Unless wrong, the rear lights for Alpine Renault GTA were similar to those on M100.
Regarding the rear lights grooved version for Alpine Renault A610 (like the ones I recently installed on my M100), mainly the covers were different most probably for the original version for Alpine GTA (and M100) were too tricky to make perfect.

I took some time browsing various Alpine Renault (French) clubs' forums:
- 'England' mention can be read at bottom of Alpine's rear light covers just like we can read on those we have on M100.
- Obviously, Alpine clubs have identified the English company which was making them for Renault, while some were possibly made in France too under authorized licences. I still need to clarify whether plastic parts were received from England for final assembling in France or if they were made in France as well using some (authorized) copies of moulds.
- Some years ago Renault made a final serie of sets (grooved version) until the moulds reached end of their life and were ultimately destructed...
- Many Alpine GTA/A610's owners and clubs are desperate and seriously looking for opportunity to have these pieces rebuilt (preferably the full light but the cover only would be seen as an acceptable low option), with/without support from Renault people (who don't seem to be that excited for time being).

Wayne, John, please let me know if need/will for pushing further investigations on French side as I don't know how many of us would be interested in such a project.

Dear all,

I am in contact with the largest club of Alpine Renault's owners (FAR). I have asked them the following question just as I ask you to answer please:

How many of us, Lotus M100's owners, would be interested in a pair of rear lights covers if following potential options:

Type Alpine GTA / Lotus M100
Case 1: price approx. 100 € for a couple of left + right covers:

Case 2: price approx. 200 € for a couple of left + right covers:

Type Alpine A 610 (grooved version)
Case 1: price approx. 100 € for a couple of left + right covers:

Case 2: price approx. 200 € for a couple of left + right covers:

Regards Franck

I cannot garanty any results yet. This consultation is just to give an idea of potential number of buyers to some industrial companies I intend to contact.

The alpine GTA club were at ST.Mary's car show in bishops stortford. One of the members mentioned just this, it was mentioned that they were planning on producing some if there was enough interest. I have tried to join the forum to find out more as there is a thread with more details... I shall try again

If I'm honest up to €200 is not unreasonable, obviously if it were less I'd be happier but count me in up to the higher figure and for whichever type gains the most approval.

Is my preference. I take it you mean 100 € for one set, not two sets?

A toutes fins utiles, sachez que je suis aussi en train de recenser (sous le pseudo WienLot) le nombre d'acheteurs potentiellement intéressés du coté des propriétaires de Lotus M100 dans le monde (via Lotus Elan Central).
