MILLTEK EXHAUST

Postby Scott » Fri 17.02.2017, 06:53

Hello, as I am in search of a new sports exhaust, having a debate between Piper's and PNM's, I have found that Paul Matty offers a MILLTEK sport exhaust.. Does anyone know anything about that?

No doubt you've read this thread viewtopic.php?f=36&t=811&p=9981&hilit=milltek#p9981
so I would ring Paul Matty and see whether its still an absolute pig to fit.
Personally I would stick with PNM or Piper; tried and tested by many of the forum, great sound, enhances the performance, known to fit....why gamble?

Scott, what are you replacing? Is it standard or do you already have a sports exhaust to compare too.
Last year I fitted the Piper 2.25" removed the cat and the performance was very noticeable.
It is an S2 so that was to be expected a certain amount anyway.
The sound is great, no boost creep or knocking.
Not the cheapest but you get what you pay for in my experience.

Hi, I have a Milltek on an Audi, well made system, but I have the Piper on my SE. Fitted very easily and sounds nice and mellow without being intrusive. Happy with the choice, but no noticeable performance difference!

You must be the first guy in here saying that no performance added on after the new exhaust! That need a big talk!

Choosing between 2.25 pipers and 2.25 pnms would need more data and dyno..
Also what would be the difference? They both using same pattern and material..! And Elan's exhaust design is simple and cannot be done differently. So what are the differences between Piper , Pnm or even Milltek?
Also I known that Paul Matty is one the heaviest suppliers for UK/Lotus cars right?

All depends on what exhaust he took off the car. Might not have been the standard one.

I assume the PNM is the old Peco/Cybox?
Piper was developed independently. Some find the Peco a little boomy at 70mph but I believe they now also sell an extra silencer. Piper is also available as a 2.5" version & the option of a sport cat.

Be aware that a larger exhaust will need a larger wastegate to control boost properly. Without this you will get boost creep but maybe not enough to hit the over boost cut.

Don't you think that 2.5 is too much for 1.6 elan? I mean from technical speaking, 2 - 2.25 are just ok for this kind of engine - capacity - gas etc.

I'm replacing the standard 2'' , but still in many thoughts of what to buy. What I'm trying to understand is how our simple exhaust design could differ that much from one to another brand? And why

I have just had the PNM single box system fitted. The company was easy to deal with, it arrived next day and my guy that fitted it said it went on with no problems.

It is definitely louder (not unpleasantly so) but not when you are just pootling about. Get on an open road and hit the 'loud' pedal and it comes alive!!! the turbo seems to spin up quicker and stronger and it takes off like a scalded cat with the noise to match. Perfect!

Hi, re my earlier post, it was the standard system that I replaced, but you've got me wondering now whether there might be something else that's not set up properly! I had the wastegate ported but haven't yet upgraded the chip, perhaps Everest is the way to go!

Old thread but I'm curious if there's any HP gain with PNM exhaust.
