New Large Bore Exhaust by PECO for S1 Elans with no flat bit

Peco system ordered up and being dispatched to me today - it should arrive Monday (looking forward to it ). Then I just need to find a 'reputable' exhaust fitter to fit the thing for me.(not looking forward to that bit)

Why not ask DJ at PECO for a recommended fitter in the Edinburgh area - he will have an idea which place orders the most exhausts ?? It may also well be worth asking the Halfrauds (Straiton) branch for a quote - they have a RipMax clientele and so will be used to fitting after market SS exhausts.

I asked DJ for a reccommended fitter in Edinburgh, but ofcourse the only one he knew was their PECO retailer, which he was understandably reluctant to give me since he was bypassing them in order to give us such a good deal on the price. Halfords is a good suggestion though, so I'll give them a call for a quote (will also be trying Kwik-fit and a local non-chain exhaust fitter)

Exhaust fitted today

Initial impression is very good. Looks great, sounds good and boosting up to 0.8 ish through 3rd. No problems yet. Need more of a run as rain stops play today, but so far I'm chuffed...

Got mine fitted at the weekend there by Kwik-fit. They said it was pretty straightforward to fit and that they'd "had worse". They were also really impressed with the sound, one of the nicest systems they had heard.

My boost gauge however is only going up to just under 0.5 bar, so does this indicate a problem (think I read somewhere that boost is limited to 0.5 if the ECU detects a fault)? The engine has been cutting out at idle speed when warm (since well before the exhaust was fitted) but always restarts. In fact, if anything, the new exhaust has improved the situation as it is cutting out a lot less than it used to.

what was the car boosting at before the Peco? just wonder if the boost gauge is out does she feel any faster since u`ve had the Peco fitted?

IIRC the stock boost is 0.4 (?) and the BSV bleeds to 0.65 (?) so just wonder if the BSV is faulty?

I'm pretty sure that the boost gauge used to go a wee bit higher than it does now prior to the PECO. However, in saying that, the car does feel a lot more responsive and just a wee bit quicker. It was just given everything I'd heard about boost creep, I was expecting the gauge to read higher, not lower. I'm tempted to try the paperclip test just out of curiosity to see if I get any fault codes.

OK, better weather today...

1st, 2nd, 3rd foot to the floor - no problems

4th gear from 65mph, foot to the floor, and fuel cut off before redline...

I'm ok about this, no damage to the car which is a good start. And to be fair, it takes some doing. The boost creep is very steady and repeatable and therefore controllable. I can manage to watch the boost and lift off just before fuel cut. I guess its a testament to the engineering of the exhaust that this is possible. It provides boost creep but not too much as to be uncontrollable. Well done Dave. This exhaust has opened the gateway for more power, and I like it It's now about fine control and getting the most out of it. Cue Alans chip.

Finding exactly the same Jon. Feathering the throttle just short of foot to the floor can keep the boost going all the way. Must admit, I first started using the technique when I had the stuck wastegate - that was a lot more difficult!

Has anyone experienced a whistle at >5000 rpm under heavy load? I don't know if I've got a leak somewhere or whether it's the wastegate struggling to cope with the pressure difference. Seem to remember someone posting about it, so off to search for "whistle".

BTW Has anyone tried the Kili/Everest with the exhaust yet?

I know , I just had to exhibit a bit of blind faith. But to be fair to them, they did make a really good job of the fitting - doesn't hang low at all, which is also why I wasn't about to quibble over the price too much (they had originally quoted me £40, so I couldn't talk them any lower than £30 despite telling them that other kwik-fits had done it for less)

Now, should I be worried that I'm not getting any boost creep like everyone else, or glad?
