New Large Bore Exhaust by PECO for S1 Elans with no flat bit

Over hard bumps my rear lower wishbone hit`s the silencer, but i lowered my car slightly and thinking of adjusting it a little higher. Maybe this is what u`r hearing?

Had my S2 Peco fitted today.
My main 'cat' was empty so MOT's shouldn't be a problem.It looks and sounds great!! Cheers Dave.

I have heard some knocks from the rear of the car when going over some bumps.

I had a look at the rear mountin (the one with the strap around the back box) and there are tell tale signs of where the flat part which has the nut and bolt, is knocking against the outer casing of the boot/luggage space.

A simple fix would be to have Peco put this flat part on the other side, away from the bootspace and less likely to come into contact.

Have a look for scuff marks in this area also.

due to the large price rises in the cost of stainless steel, almost doubled in the last 12 months, we can no longer hold the price of £250.00 for an Elan exhaust system.

As from 01/12/2006 the selling price will be £325.00. However it will still be available to LEC members for £295.00.

As the group coordinator, could I just thank Dave and Peco, for keeping what was meant to be a one-off group purchase open for six months. Unfortunately, the £250 offer has now lapsed, but many of us have benefited from a very competitively priced system and even £295 is not unreasonable.

A1, makes it sound like a nice sportscar without being boy racer-like, plus 10 - 23 bhp increase reported (10 for my S2, 23 for Peco Dave's SE).

I believe it's a lifetime warranty.

At £300 + delivery or (free fitting at Peco) you will be happy!

Exhaust is in two bits so the three and a half hour drive to Liverpool is out of the question

Do you know if they have any fitters in the South - I am in Berkshire?

Also is the warranty return to Liverpool?

Peco will not pass on the exhausts to their fitters because of the large discount, but several people have taken it to Kwik Fit or any local exhaust fitters. I think the general consensus was a £20 back hander will get it fitted.

I guess the warranty would be return to Liverpool, but Peco Dave (Dave Jones) will be able to give you more detail, best bet his to contact him through the main Peco switchboard, he's a really nice guy so you shouldn't have any problems.

Also like to say that this system does fit an S2 and it will still pass the MOT emission test providing your pre-cat is in working order.

Is there any way to pre-test for this. I am in the market for a new exhaust as my existing one is blowing - but i'd hate to have it done and then fail its next MOT.

Are there any exhaust upgrade options that keep the main cat if removing it isnt an option?

Sounds like its unlikely to be a problem. My S2 got through its MOT a few weeks back - with just an advisory about the leaky exhaust.

Is this exhaust easy to fit? My car is up for a service soon and I usually take it to Paul Matty - I was thinking of getting it all done at the same time, but if its just a kwik fit jobby - then I may take the plunge immediately.

Self fitting is easy! drive self to local kwik fit, offer the saturday boy 25 quid to fit the thing, go round corner to pub for half a shandy while you wait, come back in 30 mins and hey presto - loud shiny tailpipe fitted satis!

Dear All:

At long last, I have fitted my Peco exhaust. Congrats to Dave for a quality piece of equipment. I installed it myself. All went together very easily. Took about 2 hours taking into account some installation/removal/test fitting of the muffler to see if there was a way to fit the clamp tp prevent chaffing and rubbing on the trunk/boot bottom.

Even though I have not yet had the car out on the road, I did fire it up on stands to see if any of the Samco hoses I installed were leaking. My initial take on it is that the Peco exhaust system is really, really QUIET! I was simply amazed. From reading the posts in this thread, I was expecting a really loud exhaust. Not this exhaust. Big time QUIET.

Variations on a theme-Instead of using the clamps that came with the kit, I used marine grade stainless steel T-bolt clamps. I removed the nyloc nut and used a nut with a lock washer and then dead nutted it with a top lock nut. I considered using constant torque clamps but I decided that would be overkill. By the way, I am less than impressed with top lock nuts.

I placed the clamps right by the edge of the female pipe at each joint. The nice thing about the T-bolt clamps is that they exert pressure more equally around the pipe than traditional muffler clamps. Makes for easier disassembly later, if needed.
