New Large Bore Exhaust by PECO for S1 Elans with no flat bit

Even though I have not yet had the car out on the road, I did fire it up on stands to see if any of the Samco hoses I installed were leaking. My initial take on it is that the Peco exhaust system is really, really QUIET! I was simply amazed. From reading the posts in this thread, I was expecting a really loud exhaust. Not this exhaust. Big time QUIET.

It is reasonably quiet at rest - just a nice burbly resonance. However, take it out and floor it and you will soon change your mind. I'm pretty sure you won't be saying QUIET after that Algirdas. If so, I'll eat Monty's boxer shorts.

Just wondering it`s quite cause u still have the pre-cat

Mine was extremely load and had to have a 2nd silencer fitted it`s still load but just right for me and i pass the sound test on trackdays

Yes, I still do have the pre-cat. Do you think that can make that big of a difference? Even those times I blipped the throttle to 3-4,000 rpm, the car was still eerily quiet. The racket from the lifters was louder than the exhaust.

I'm starting to suspect that Peco Dave had his boys supply me with a muffler/silencer from a hearse just so they can all have a hearty belly laugh at the expense of the big, dumb Yank from Colorado.

PS You may want to consider boiling your shorts in meat before feeding them to Mr. Rambo. I hear that is what they do in France.

an other questions is ...here is belgium you can change your ehaust but the sound can not be more than the origional or more than 74Db.... ANYONE that has this kind of data

but can i reduce the noice buy putting a washer hole (2" or smaller) ...somewere in the joints to restrick the exhaustflow ?

If there strict on the noise level then the Peco will not be for you

I did hear that Peco/Dave is going to do a quiter silencer.

I believe the answer to both is 'yes', but it would be best to call Peco and speak to Dave Jones. Probably best to speak to him if you want to order anyway.

Shame the noise may be a problem for you. I have heard one and it sounds nice..

i just got one, 310 to my door, 40 to get it fitted by local chap

i am getting boost creep, but only right onthe edge before changing gears up so its either a mountain chip (for the increased fuel cut off figures) or get that turbo off and ported jobber in the summer

but appart from that, getting better power thru to the wheels and i think the noise is great

yup, but my current abode has no garage, hence leave some bigger jobs till the summer time when a warm back is better than frozen fingers


mind you, i am seriously thinking about having the cam belt done soon, water pump, tensioners etc etc

and if i'm right that means the turbo has to come off, in which case it'd be worth waiting till the belt change and asking the garage to do it, been quoted about 450 quid for the change, but i'll have to look into it further and win some more poker games before i go for it

The turbo is on the exhaust manifold, at the front. The cam belt etc is all at the side. The two do not interfere with each other.
